330 enjoy the music, weather at SL park

The Silver Lake Music in the Park series continued July 23 on a perfect summer evening with over 330 people enjoying the music provided by Alice and the Ol’ Boys: Alice Nowak, Jerome Kadlec, Jerry Kahle, Kendall Kubasch, August Makovsky, Frank Melmer and Dean Totusek. The Mariners Club of Faith Presbyterian Church served lunch.
 

24 Brownton seniors met on Monday

Twenty-four Brownton senior citizens met Monday, July 27, at the Brownton Community Center.
 
Cards were played after the meeting with the following winners — 500, Archie Diehn, first, and Norma Albrecht, second; pinochle, Betty Katzenmeyer, first, and Phyllis Mahnke, second; and sheephead, Elmer Maass, first, and Lowell Brelje, second.
 
Elva Wendlandt won the door prize and served refreshments.
 

Stewart City Council makes new fire deals

Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, the city of Stewart and the five townships that contract with it for fire protection will have a new deal.
 
At a joint meeting Wednesday, July 22, the Stewart City Council agreed that the costs of running the fire department and emergency medical responders unit will be split 50-50 — the city will pay 50 percent of the fire department and emergency medical responders budgets, while the five townships will chip in for the other 50 percent.
 

Johnson appointed to workforce board

Denise Johnson, owner and chief executive officer (CEO) of RiteWay Conveyors, Inc., Lester Prairie, was recently elected to the Central Minnesota Workforce Development Board (WDB). 
 
She represents private industry in McLeod County. In addition, she will serve on the board’s youth committee.
Johnson is a strong advocate for workforce development.
 

Son born to Fisher family

Melissa and Jerrod Fisher of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Tripp Robert Fisher, born July 22, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Tripp weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 211⁄2 inches long. He is welcomed home by siblings Alexis Christianson-Tranby and Natosha and Madisyn Fisher. Grandparents are Gerri Krieg of Burnsville, Tim Christianson of Bloomington, Sharon Moore of Lester Prairie, and Jerry Fisher of Zumbrota. 

Baby boy for Fahey family

Jessica and Zach Fahey of Brownton announce the birth of their son, Reed Patrick Fahey, born July 18, 2015, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Reed weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long. He joins brothers Noah, 7, and Liam, 1. 

Son for Lewandowski, Karels

Dahlton Lewandowski and Hillary Karels of Zimmerman announce the arrival of a son, Zeke Thomas Lewandowski, born Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Buffalo hospital. Zeke weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 21 inches long at birth. He joins a brother, Jackson. Grandparents are Paul and Trisha Karels of Brownton, Tom and Ann Lewandowski of Zimmerman and Michelle and Duston Carlson of Cokato. Great-grandparents are Patty and the late Jerry Karels of Winsted and Pat and Lee Wright of Hutchinson.

Pokornowski gets scholarships

Katlyn Pokornowski, daughter of David and Tammy Pokornowski of Silver Lake, has received the Angermeyr Band Scholarship of $250 and also received the Rose Scholarship of $1000 for the 2015-2016 Holy Trinity school year. 

Donald F. Jahnke, 87, of Brainerd

Donald Fredrich Jahnke, 87, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society - Bethany, in Brainerd.
 
Private family services will be held.
 
Donald Jahnke was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Gibbon, to Ernest and Emma (Fredrich) Jahnke.
 

Arden H. Jahnke 84, of Minneapolis

Arden H. Jahnke, 84, of Minneapolis, died peacefully Sunday, July 26, 2015, surrounded by loved ones.
 
A memorial service is set for Friday, July 31, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 4101 Washington St. NE, Columbia Heights.
