Girls’ hoopsters valiant in road loss at Rockford

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team played a gritty contest at Rockford Friday, Jan. 11, despite losing top scorer Miah Monahan to injury early in the first half. Fellow guard Teagan Hansch and others played key roles in the narrow loss.

Pantherettes ninth, 11th at conference meet

The Glencoe-Silver Lake dance team placed ninth in its kick routine and 11th in its jazz routine at Wright County Conference meet in Hutchinson Saturday, Jan. 19. Up next for the Pantherettes is the Section 3AA championship meet at Delano High School Saturday, Feb. 2.

‘Blood moon’ over Glencoe

With the St. Pius X Church steeple in the foreground, Sunday night’s lunar eclipse had a super moon appear with a copper-red hue just before 11 p.m. The eclipse occurred when the moon passed through the earth’s shadow. The next lunar eclipse expected to be visible here will be in 2022.

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday and approved the following agenda items: the purchase of five 2019 Dodge Durangos, a letter of intent for a partnership with PACT (Putting All Communities Together) for Families Collaborative, and an annual service for an emergency notification system company.

Tylon Reetz chosen as INDY Warrior for January

Arlington native Tylon Reetz, who currently lives in rural Glencoe, has been chosen as an INDY Warrior by the INDY Foundation for the month of January.
The INDY Foundation is a Minnesota-based non-profit organization dedicated to giving support to real-life warriors in the midst of their cancer battles.

Injury crash reported west of Silver Lake Tuesday morning

A head-on crash on Highway 7 west of Silver Lake narrowed traffic to a single lane Tuesday morning, Jan 22.
The crash occurred just after 10:15 a.m. when the 17-year-old boy driving a 2006 Dodge Charger heading west on Highway 7 lost control of the vehicle on the ice and snow and crashed into an eastbound GMC pickup truck near the highway’s intersection with Kale Avenue in Hale Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
