Second-graders from Lincoln Elementary displayed their musical talents on the big stage at the high school auditorium Thursday, May 9. An overflow crowd was impressed with students’ singing and instrumental skills.

Letter-carriers bring in food for food shelf

Letter-carriers from Glencoe and Hutchinson post offices picked up almost two tons of donated canned and dry goods for the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf Saturday. Residents left donated food items at the mail box to be picked up. Based on the number of people using the food shelf, the donated food will last just a few days, according to Lennie Albers, the food shelf’s executive director. She’s pictured with letter-carrier Greg Copas.

Taking the oath

Glencoe Mayor Randy Wilson administered the oath of office to new Glencoe Fire Department officers and firefighters at the May 6 city council meeting. The officers include Engine Company 31, 2nd Lt. Scott Mathews, training officer Nick Pagel, Engine Company 36, 2nd Lt. John Kruger. The new firefighters just completing a year of service include Tyler Ortloff, Lenny Donnay, Corey Lemke, Tyler Plihal, Brandon Rollins and Islam Barerra.

Bruins improve to 3-1 with victory

The Brownton Bruins improved to 3-1 on the season with an 11-1, eight-inning win against visiting St. Boni on Sunday, May 12.
Deryk Randt got the Bruins on the board with a two-run homer in the second inning of Brownton’s home opener at Barney Tadsen Field. The blast put the hosts up for good as Bruins starter Ryan Grams turned in another gem on the mound.

Brewers battered by Sox

The Glencoe Brewers suffered loss No. 1 of the season in an 11-2 setback against the visiting Carver Black Sox on Sunday, May 12, at Vollmer Field.
Carver starting pitcher Andrew Weber piled up 14 strikeouts in his seven-inning start. Glencoe was held to five hits on the day, including a two-run homer by Paxton Jordahl in the seventh inning that accounted for all the Brewers’ offense on the day.

Girls’ golf sixth in WCC West standings

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ golf team finished eighth and sixth, respectively, in the seventh and eighth rounds of Wright County Conference West play, hosted by Dassel-Cokato at Albion Ridges Golf Course.
In the nine-hole Round 7 matchup, the Panthers carded a 220. Grace Kosek led the way with a 48 to place ninth individually.
Kenady Rosckes was 31st with a 56, Ashley Radke was 33rd at 57, and Maddy Brown was 35th at 59.
Alyssa Radke took 41st at 64 and Brooke Brown was 42nd at 70.
