Right place, right time - Glencoe man, nephew accidently find medallion

Call it good luck or the misfortune of the person who hid the Glencoe Days medallion. Either way, a little boy from Glencoe won’t mind.
Thursday evening, June 20, Nick Koester and his nephew, Dale Anderson, were cleaning up the softball fields before the co-rec league players played at Oak Leaf Park. They were picking up garbage left behind at the ballfield when they found a wad of duct tape beneath the bench in the dugout. Anderson, 7, picked up the wad of duct tape and noticed the medallion.

Glencoe welcomes the bright lights, attention to town today

In the afterglow of Glencoe Days, the community will welcome attention from a Twin Cities TV station this week when Fox 9 (KMSP) brings its town ball tour to Vollmer Field in Oak Leaf Park today, June 26.
The Glencoe Brewers will host the Young America Cardinals tonight, 7:30 p.m. Admission to the game is free as the host team aims to put its best foot forward for the visiting cameras, TV station crew and on-air talent.

Glencoe Days, 2019

Sitting at a picnic table in Oak Leaf Park Monday morning, Jon and Myranda VanDamme informally reviewed the Glencoe Days weekend.

Witte crowned Miss Glencoe Sunday

At coronation on Sunday in the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) auditorium, Claire Witte won Miss Glencoe honors in the first crowning since 2007. She also earned Miss Congeniality, an honor bestowed by a vote of peers who also participated in the Miss Glencoe program. Also winning honors alongside Witte was Isabel Petersen, who was crowned as Glencoe’s ambassador.
The daughter of Jeri and Brian Witte, 17, the soon-to-be senior at GSL, and Petersen, 16, who’s going to be a junior at GSL, each had their own perspective on the significance of being crowned:

Acoma Township couple arguing value, taxes with county

McLeod County and Daniel and Stephanie Zetah have a $170,000 difference of opinion regarding the couple’s value on their 96-acre property in rural Hutchinson.
At a McLeod County Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting June 17, the Zetahs argued their case unsuccessfully, prompting plans to take their case to tax court at a future date to settle the discrepancy.

Letter to editor - Gruenhagen believes he didn’t mislead readers on ‘Green New Deal’ letter

To the editor,
This letter is in response to Darius Remus’ letter (Chronicle, June 19) in which he accuses me of misleading the public. He states that the Green New Deal is only a “resolution…not a bill, legislation or policy that requires a vote.”
Let me be clear, in the last legislative session there were at least 14 DFL bills that promoted the Green New Deal. These bills, too numerous to list, were included in the DFL Jobs and Energy Omnibus Bill, HF 2208, which passed the Democrat-controlled House by 74-59.

Glencoe Days - Our view: Worth the effort

Congratulations, Glencoe. You stepped up and supported your summertime community festival in impressive fashion. Community members showed up in impressive numbers, letting the planning committee members and dozens of volunteers know that if they put on a festival worth attending, you’d reward the effort with your attendance.

Stepping up to create a clean energy future for all

The science is clear: carbon emissions sent into the atmosphere from a variety of human sources threaten to upend our economy, our health, our national security, and our very way of life.
At a recent conference at the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment, I joined local and state leaders, as well as energy and environmental experts from Minnesota and around the world as we shared our ideas for addressing climate change, which I consider the most urgent and existential challenge of our time.
Those ideas - and the action they spur - can’t come soon enough.
