NOTICE OF HEARING ON PROPOSED ASSESSMENT

Notice is hereby given that the Brownton city council will meet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2019, at the Brownton Community Center, to consider, and possibly adopt, the proposed assessment for the 2019 Street and Utility Improvement Project, which includes partial or full reconstruction on the following streets:

• 1st Avenue South from 3rd Street South to Division Street
• 2nd Avenue South from 3rd Street South to Division Street
• 4th Avenue North from 2nd Street North to Railroad

GSL High School activity passes are now available

Activity passes for events at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School are available now in the GSL Activity Office.
Passes are good for admittance to all regular season home events where admission is charged.
These events include, the Fall Musical, One Act Play, Spring Play, band and choir concerts, and athletic events.
Passes are not valid for postseason play.
Adult passes are $75 each, with passes for those 65 and over, as well as student passes costing $30 each.
The GSL Activity Office is open from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.

Brownton’s season ends in loss to Black Sox

Any hopes the Brownton Bruins had of making the state tournament came to an end on Thursday, Aug. 8, as the team’s season came to an end with a 4-2 loss to the Carver Black Sox in the Region 7C playoffs in Cologne.
Carver’s two-run fifth broke open a 2-2 tie in the tightly-contested contest that saw the winner qualify for the Class C Tournament and the loser go home. The Bruins were the last of the three local rivals – Glencoe, Plato and Brownton – still alive in the regional bracket.

Post 641 wins Central Plains title

For the second time in team history, and the first since 2014, the Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team won the Central Plains Region National championship – the highest achievement in Division II.
Plato, which finished runner-up in the state tournament a week earlier, completed a 4-1 run through the Central Plains tournament with a regional-clinching 6-0 shutout of Dilworth, the team that had defeated Post 641 for the Minnesota title.

The Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team clinched the Central Plains Region National championship after defeating Dilworth 6-0 behind a four-hit, complete-game shutout from pitcher Korey Johnson Sunday, Aug. 11, in Waupun, Wis. Johnson was named the tournament’s MVP. The regional tournament is the highest level contested in Division II American Legion Baseball. It was the second Central Plains title for Plato, which also won the championship in 2014. Post 641 finished the season with a 20-5 record.

Proceeds from lemonade stand to go to Haiti

On East 10th Street in Glencoe, vacation Bible school students of Living Rock Church in Norwood Young America were selling lemonade and brownies with proceeds going to buy shoes for people in Haiti. GSL’s parking lot by the lines

Corey Johnson of All-Star Asphalts in Willmar painted lines dividing parking spaces at GSL’s newly-resurfaced parking lot Friday afternoon. Saturday, the area received 1.25 inches of rain and the water drained off the lot into adjacent ponds as intended. The new lot was opened for use Monday, Aug. 12. The project is expected to be completed later this month.

Glencoe High School Class of 1954 reunion

Nineteen members of Glencoe High School’s Class of 1954 recently gathered for a reunion. The class had 87 members back in ’54 and 14 still live in Glencoe or the immediate area.
