Roger Schultz, 72, of Glencoe

Roger Schultz, 72, of Glencoe, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior the service at the church.

James Martinson, 64, of Cokato / REVISED

James Craig Martinson, 64, of Cokato, passed away at University of Minnesota
Hospital in Minneapolis Dec. 19.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, 4 to 8 p.m., at Swanson-Peterson Fuenral Home of Cokato. Interment will be at Cokato City Cemetery.

Mark Wilkins, 57, of Glencoe, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, at his home in Glencoe.

Keepin' their spirits up

Santa Claus and Glencoe firefighters made the rounds for a holiday parade Wednesday afternoon at GlenFields Living with Care. A lengthy parade with plenty of cars decorated to generate plenty of Christmas cheer was expected, but a blizzard blew those plans away. Nevertheless, Santa Claus, firefighters and a few hearty folks braved the elements to make sure residents didn’t feel forgotten amidst restrictions.

It's all downhill

With a fresh coating of snow on the hill and mild temperatures, Sunday provided an ideal opportunity for downhill sledding at the city park on North Greeley Avenue. Janie Grack, 6, and her dad, Aaron, enjoyed time on the hill. With more snow on the way this week, the popular Glencoe sledding hill figures to be a busy place.

Bell-ringers in black

Glencoe Fire Department Capt. 1 Jeremy Mattson and his wife, Shannon, recently took on a shift bell ringing for the Salvation Army on a Saturday afternoon at Coborn’s in Glencoe. Mild temperatures made the shift more enjoyable as the pair were able to thank people for donations and chat with shoppers entering and leaving the grocery store. The donations are committed to helping people in McLeod County.

GSL alum Lemke shines in first season with Tommies

University of St. Thomas freshman Olivia Lemke earned all-conference/honorable mention honors as a pole-vaulter during the indoor season. Her personal-best was 11-feet-1.

Mayor Wilson brings service to city to a close

After several years as mayor, Randy Wilson is stepping down from the Glencoe City Council. Wilson played a role in several important city improvements, including supporting the renovation of Glencoe City Center after the school district sold the building to the city.

Parks superintendent retires after 41 years

Al Koglin, McLeod County Parks superintendent, is retiring after 41 years on the job in early January. Koglin said he’ll miss the people he has worked with, but he just knew it was time to say goodbye.
