GSL girls' hoops heading to state

GSL girls’ basketball coach Jeff Monahan and his players celebrated with the net they cut down after winning the section championship over Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Saturday, March 27, in Glencoe. Monahan and his Panthers opened state tournament play yesterday, Tuesday, March 30, against Minnehaha Academy at Chanhassen High School. Greeley falls short at state gymnastics

Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Marissa Greeley averaged a 9.000 on her vault at the state gymnastics meet Friday, March 26, at Champlin High School. She placed 36th out of 48 gymnasts. This was Greeley’s third trip to the state meet.

GSL Knowledge Bowl rolls to state

A great season

The GSL fourth grade girls’ traveling basketball team ended its season with an overall 9-3 record. They placed second in the Chaska Super Classic (losing by a point in the championship game), finishing first in the Hutchinson Crow River Shootout, winning the the Annandale Cardinal Clash, and finishing 1-2 at the state tournament. Shiny clean

Glencoe’s Jose Villanueva made sure his truck was thoroughly dried off after a washing at the car wash on North Chandler Avenue Sunday afternoon. He was one of dozens of people who took advantage of a mild, sunny afternoon to remove a layer of dirt and gunk from his vehicle.

Trailblazer OKs investment in better dispatching

Facing what it deems an inefficient system for dispatching its buses to pickup and transport riders, the Trailblazer Transit board of directors approved spending $100,000 on improved performance.

Brownton boy battles brain tumor with foundation’s help

Beau Brelje’s life took a turn for the worst March 2020.
He had suffered from headaches for about four years, and then a sore throat sent his parents over the edge. His mother, Brenda Brelje, brought him to the emergency room March 2, which then turned into surgery six days later at Children’s Minnesota.
Beau, a 9-year-old from rural Brownton, was diagnosed with a brain tumor called anaplastic ependymoma.
He’s now one of the seven Tim Orth Memorial Foundation recipients this year.

A seller’s market – Low inventory, interest rates have residential sellers in a good spot

On a typical weekend during an open house, Cathy and Fred Werth might see a handful of groups come through an open house. They might receive one, perhaps two offers. Last weekend, they saw 16 groups and received five offers.
“It’s definitely a seller’s market,” Fred Werth said.

County planning commission proposes solar amendment

Solar gardens have become a hot topic in recent years, and with McLeod County’s denial of a proposal awaiting a court hearing, the county is looking for ways to handle this type of proposed land use moving forward.
Marc Telecky, the county’s director of Environmental Services, proposed a solar garden ordinance amendment at the county planning commission meeting Wednesday, March 24.
