It can be done – Our view: From necessity came welcome collaboration

A couple Fridays ago, two Glencoe police officers staffed the hallways of Glencoe-Silver Lake Junior-Senior High School. Their presence Dec. 17 was a welcome sight in response is arguably one of the most irresponsible acts of publishing we’ve seen in the recent past.

Richard Somerville, 71, of Glencoe

Richard Somerville, 71, of Glencoe, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, at Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, 2 p.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, noon to 2 p.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.

Sherri Schlueter, 66, of Sumter Township

Sherri B. Schlueter, 66, wife of Daniel, of Sumter Township, McLeod County, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Glencoe Regional Health in Glencoe.
Services will be held at a later date.

Bonnie Paul’s Christmas village a testament to the holiday spirit

With some help from her husband, Scott, Bonnie Paul has been setting up and maintaining a Christmas village in her home for over 20 years.

Depth helping wrestlers in wins

Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie's Miguel Arandia came up just short during a tough battle in the 145-pound match against Centennial. Arandia and the Panthers won the match, 49-19.

Choirs spread holiday cheer

The Glencoe-Silver Lake High School choirs performed their annual holiday concert Monday night. The audience enjoyed holiday selections performed by the 9/10, Chamber and concert Choirs. Pictured, the concert choir performed Lo, How a Rose/The Rose arranged by Craig Hella Johnson under the direction of Jeff Iverson. Soloists in the number were Emma Gepson and Lindsey Juarez-Ramirez. The choir were accompanied by Vicky Harris. GSL alum Dan Cross assisted Harris.

Santa and Mrs. Claus came to town

Santa and Mrs. Claus were very busy Saturday afternoon, Dec. 18, at their visit to Silver Lake’s 19th annual Winterfest celebration. Eight-month-old Palmer Maass, relaxed and enjoyed her first visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. BarnView Stables of New Prague were on hand to provide horse drawn carriage rides.

Reacting to threat of violence, police provide visible presence at GSL Friday

Glencoe Police Capt. Jamey Retzer spent most of Friday in school. He and another GPD officer maintained a high profile to quell any concerns of in-school violence as promoted on the social media platform TikTok.

Mural tips off trio where to find Holly Days Medallion

The trio of Becky Mathews, Jill Patzoldt and Tanya Mathews found the Holly Days Medallion last Wednesday, Dec. 15, in the park adjacent to the Temple Service Center beneath a purple arbor. They’ll split the $500 cash prize from Crow River SnowPros.

Bonnie Paul’s Christmas village a testament to the holiday spirit

If you don’t believe Christmas is probably Bonnie Paul’s favorite time of the year, ask to see the village room in her home.
An 11-by-13 room has been transformed into a Christmas village. The walls and ceiling are lined in glossy midnight blue liner with iridescent specks and spots paint representing a seemingly incalculable number of stars on a crystal-clear winter night. Blacklights bring the stars to life.
