Holiday fun in Brownton

Santa Claus was excited to visit Brownton Saturday, Dec. 4. Children had the opportunity to let Santa know what was on their Christmas list, decorate cookies and take a tractor-drawn sleigh ride. William, 10, (left) and Lucille Madden, 6, showed off their skills decorating cookies. They are the children of Trista Novy and Andrew Madden of Hutchinson.

All spruced up for the holidays

Teresa Amberg showed off some of the holiday handiwork on display at the Glencoe Public Library during the holiday season. Many different trees are decorated with the theme of “Christmas Activities” and are on display at the library and in Glencoe City Center.

GSL boys split opening games

GSL’s Eli Ehrke sliced through the Jordan defense in the second half of Thursday’s game at GSL. Ehrke finished with 24 points. He and the Panthers came up just short against the Hubmen, falling 87-72.

Legend – A friendly card game helped shape McLeod County as it is today

The two longest serving county attorneys in Minnesota, Michael Junge of McLeod County (left) and David Schauer of Sibley County (right) re-enacted the legendary game of chance, which was conducted in 1856 that allegedly removed Round Grove and Penn townships from Sibley County and gave them to McLeod County. at the Sibley County Courthouse Oct. 11, Schauer’s last day before his retirement.

City hikes 2022 property tax levy

Darius Remus went to the Glencoe City Council meeting with a simple message for the council. Whether or not it is realistic depends on your perspective.
Remus wanted the city council to keep the increase in the 2022 property tax levy at the level of inflation. Thanks to a lower-than-expected cost of employee insurance, Remus got what he wanted.

Schrader sisters (in-law) making habit of award-winning community service

They aren’t blood relatives, yet Diane and Kathy Schrader are part of a large family all dedicated to finding a way to serve their community. It’s what Lions do.
Diane Schrader and her sister-in-law Kathy Schrader are part of a group of Plato Lions that seems to take great pleasure and pride in winning one of Lions International’s top awards for volunteerism.

Trailblazer board OKs additional pay for staff

With the commitment of ongoing additional funding from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to increase wages to attract new drivers and minimize the losses of experienced staff, the Trailblazer Transit Board unanimously approved a package of cost-of-living adjustment and pay for experience.

MnDOT has J-turns planned for Hwy. 212 in Glencoe in ‘22, ‘24

As drivers become acclimated with the roundabout along Morningside Drive in Glencoe, the prospects of more non-traditional traffic control devices and projects are in the works for the area.
In 2022, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning a paving project along County Road 1 (Dairy Avenue) from 130th Street south for five miles to the Sibley-McLeod County border.

Split city council OKs wage hike for staff, general fund budget

With the benefit of reduced insurance costs, the council voted 3-2 for a 4 percent wage increase for non-union city staff in 2022.
Councilors Sue Olson, John Schrupp and Paul Lemke supported the 4 percent increase.
Larson had built a 3 percent increase into the proposed budget. The additional funds not going to insurance costs and the inflation was the foundation of the case for the 4 percent wage increase.
