GSL/LP wrestlers take two of three at GSL Booster Club tournament

The Glencoe Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team won two out of their three matches at the GSL Booster Club Wrestling Tournament Friday, Dec. 16.

The GSL/LP Wrestling team began the tournament against Owatonna. GSL/LP started the round slow but was able to gain the upper hand during the 132-weight class match, but Owatonna quickly reclaimed the lead and went on to win the round 40 to 33. Out of the 14 weight classes GSL/LP won six out of 14 by one decision, three fall, and three by forfeit, the rest of the matches were won by Owatonna.

New options for health and beauty in Glencoe

Glencoe has two new services available for residents in the community. Salon Rustic held its grand opening on December 5 and is already going strong, while The Strong Hold Gym will be opening its doors next month.
Salon Rustic owner Crystal Meuleners said she always wanted to own a salon and had been working in town for the last 10 years. Crystal offers hair styling, hair coloring, eyelash extensions, vivid colors, and event hair styling. Crystal’s goal is to add more stylists to her salon by having booth rentals.

Board tables change orders for CSAH 1 project

County Commissioners tabled three changes order to the CSAH 1 project at their board meeting on Dec. 8. Change order number two involved full depth shoulder reclamation at an additional cost of $9,262,76, change order number three was a shoulder overlay in lieu of reclamation at a savings of $25,457.99, and change order number four was to redo culvert crossing on county ditches 13 and 29 at an additional cost of $108,847.92. The total additional cost of the three changes is $92,662.59.

County Board hears concerns over new Business Development Policy

On Thursday, December 8, the McLeod County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing for a proposed business development policy, often known as a business subsidy policy. The county’s policy also includes a tax abatement application. Economic Development Coordinator Liz Danielson presented the policy to the county board.
Three residents spoke during the public hearing to voice concerns about the public hearing.

Brownton City Council approves 4% levy bump

Brownton City Council held their truth-in-taxation meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The city presented a four percent increase over last year’s levy of $462,362 to $480,856.
The police department saw an increase, given that the current chief is planning on retiring by the end of the year, along with city insurance and all city salaries. The city salaries saw an increase between 2.5% to 3.5%. The council members did not comment on the proposed levy.
The final levy amount must be certified to McLeod County before the end of the year.

34-year-old man killed in “use of force” in New Auburn

Sibley County Sheriff Patrick Nienaber said deputies and police were called to conduct a welfare check at a home in the 8200 block of 3rd Street at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, which ultimately sparked a 10-hour-plus standoff at the property.
At the end of the standoff, shortly after midnight, "force was used which resulted in the death of an adult male at that same residence."
The release from the Sibley County Sheriff's Office does not specify what "force was used," but the Minnesota BCA has said that the man was shot.

Howard W. Stockman, age 92, of Norwood Young America, formerly of Green Isle passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, with interment following the service at the church cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 17, from 9:30-11 a.m., 1 ½ hours prior to the service at the church.
Officiating clergy was Pastor Daniel Schnabel with organist Sandy Kroells.
Congregational hymns included “Softly and Tenderly,” “How Great Thou Art”, and “I’ll Fly Away”.

LaDonna M. Rumbaugh, age 83, of Glencoe,passed away Friday, Dec. 9, at Glencoe Regional Health. Funeral
Service was held Saturday, December 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg with interment in the Glencoe City Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., 1 ½ hours prior to the service, all at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg.
Officiating clergy was Pastor Ronald Mathison, with organist Kathy Oelfke.
Soloist was Vicar Todd Bentz who sang “I Will Rise” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.
