Dorrine D. Scharping, 84, of Arlington, went to her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 28, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, and one hour prior to service time Tuesday, Feb. 1. Interment will be in the Arlington Public Cemetery.

GSL’s Knowledge Bowl teams shining bright in recent meets

The Glencoe-Silver Lake Knowledge Bowl is on a roll of late.
Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Lac Qui Parle-Valley tournament, GSL came home with a clean sweep, taking the top two spots in the varsity competition and winning the JV event, too.
The team of Zoe Ruschmeier, Zachary Reichow and Frank Jilek finished first. GSL’s Emma Gepson, Aaron Ward and Lucas Brelje finished second in the varsity competition. The JV team included Evan Marti, Sawyer Guerrero and Hayden Witthus.
The previous week at Dawson-Boyd, the Panthers brought home first-place hardware from the varsity and JV competitions.

Pantherettes host conference championship

The GSL’s Pantherette Dance Team hosted the Wright County Conference Championship Saturday. Teams performed both jazz and high-kick dances. The Pantherettes performed their jazz routine to “I’m a Lady” and their high-kick dance to “Happily Ever After.” The team will compete at an invitational in Delano Jan. 29 and wrap up the season at the sections meet at Mound Westonka Feb. 5.

Showtime

The fifth- and sixth- grade bands and fifth-/sixth-grade choir all performed in their first in-person concerts their school musical careers at Lakeside Elementary in Silver Lake Thursday. The school didn’t hold in-person concerts last year. Concert-goers were treated to a variety of music selections that included “Hot Cross Buns,” “Ode to Joy” and “Fifty Nifty United States.” The Lakeside bands and choirs will hold another concert in May.

Glencoe-Silver Lake FFA members receive their blue jackets

Several members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake FFA chapter earned their blue jackets for hard work during fundraisers and other activities. The jackets were presented to the students Monday, Jan. 24, at GSL.

GSL boys are on a big roll

Damion Schwartz (21) sliced through the Litchfield defense for a second half layup attempt in the Panthers’ 65-34 scorching of Litchfield Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Glencoe.
