McLeod County Sheriff Tim Langenfeld announced this week he will seek election in the fall.

Despite tough losses, state tournament was a great ride

GSL senior Jacob Baumgarten (24) completed a fastbreak with a layup in the second half of the Panthers’ second state tournament game Wednesday, a 77-67 season-ending setback to Minnehaha Academy. Baumgarten finished the game with 11 points.

Choir director introduces ‘American Celebration’

Director of GSL Choirs, Jeff Iverson, introduces ‘American Celebration,’ an arrangement by Ed Lojeski, at GSL’s Disney choir concert March 21. Nicole Gepson accompanied the choir on the piano. This was the first concert since the choirs returned from a trip with the bands to Orlando, FL. in early March.

Light and Power Board OKs moving forward on lumberyard acquisition

The Glencoe Light and Power Board will enter negotiations to acquire the former lumber yard property and buildings on North DeSoto Avenue. The board approved entering negotiations after a closed session at its meeting Monday, March 28.

Light and Power Board OKs moving forward on lumberyard acquisition

After a closed session at its monthly meeting Monday, March 28, the Glencoe Light and Power Board gave its blessing for ongoing negotiations on the shuttered lumberyard property.
The board’s approval allows Dave Meyer, Glencoe Light and Power’s general manager, to continue negotiations on acquisition of the 1.3-acre property on the 1100 block of North DeSoto Avenue and its two buildings. He expects the purchase will be finalized by the utility board’s meeting April 25. At that point, the sale price will be made public, he said.

Tim Orth hoops jamboree is back at GSL Saturday

After two years, the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation basketball jamboree will again be back at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School Saturday, April 2.
The 24th annual community-wide event raises money for McLeod and Wright County families with children suffering life-altering and life-threatening diseases.
The doors open at 4 p.m. with the games beginning at 5:30 p.m. Male and female area high school senior athletes will play two basketball games.

Langenfeld will seek election as sheriff

McLeod County Sheriff Tim Langenfeld announced this week he’ll seek election as the county sheriff this fall.
Langenfeld has served as county sheriff since October 2020 when he was appointed to replace retiring Sheriff Scott Rehmann.
“I am grateful for all of the support I have already received and would be honored to continue to serve as your sheriff into the future,” Langenfeld said in a press release issued Tuesday morning, March 29. “I am excited to announce my intent to run for election to remain the sheriff of McLeod County.”

The Tim Orth Foundation will use proceeds from the basketball jamborees to help area families with children facing medical challenges. We were able to contact three of the six families for their stories.

Commission backs plan for transmission line relocation

If the McLeod County Board follows the planning commission’s lead, work on replacing and relocating an electrical power transmission line will be underway next spring in western McLeod County.
