New businesses hope to boost Silver Lake

Silver Lake has recently welcomed two new businesses to their Main Street. The two young business owners see potential in Silver Lake’s business community.
Kyle Bishop opened a retail location for Tranquility Minds CBD & THC at 317 Main Street in Silver Lake just 3 weeks ago. He said that the local community and city council have been very supportive of his business.

Glencoe City Council holds hearings on three ordinances

On December 5, the City Council held a public hearing on ordinance 618 amending the commission membership on Glencoe Light and Power that one member may be from outside the city limits. Council voted 3-1 to approve the second reading. Council member Robeck voted against.

State Canvassing Board Certifies Results of the 2022 General Election

Official results show 2,525,873 Minnesotans voted on November 8, Recounts requested in House District 3A and 3B contests.
On Nov. 29, Secretary of State Steve Simon convened the State Canvassing Board to review the canvass report for the 2022 General Election and certify the results. In addition to judicial and state legislative offices, the board certified the election results of Minnesota’s constitutional officers and election results for eight U.S. House of Representative contests.

Silver Lake’s infrastructure project a step closer to reality

The starting line for the long-awaited infrastructure project in Silver Lake may be closer than expected.
John Rodeberg and Sam Fink from Short Elliot Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) told the city council at their meeting Nov. 21, they were recently notified USDA Rural Development is moving forward with the underwriting process of at least Phase 1 of the city’s proposed infrastructure project.
The upside, funding for the first parts of the project could be designated sooner than expected. The downside, information needs to be submitted to Rural Development by the end of the year.

Glencoe Council holds hearing on final tax levy

Glencoe City Administrator Mark Larson presented the 2023 Truth-in-Taxation meeting on Monday, Dec. 5. He presented to the council and general public a proposed levy increase of 4.75 percent over the 2022 levy.
Larson pointed out the operating portion of the levy has remained the same at $1,613,000. The levy increase comes from an increase for the street overlay from $500,000 to $600,000 and an increase of $45,190 in debt service.

Gale R. Ribar, 75, St. Peter

Gale R. Ribar, age 75, of St. Peter, formerly of Arlington, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at River’s Edge Hospital and Clinic in St. Peter. Memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Officiating clergy was Pastor Chris Culuris with organist: David Fienen, and soloist Torrey Carlblom.
Congregational hymns: included: “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “In Christ Alone”, “Amazing Grace”, “Go My Children, With My Blessing”.

Janet Perschau, 79, Glencoe

Janet Perschau, age 79, of Glencoe, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, at Cedar Crest Estate in Silver Lake. Funeral Service was held Thursday, Dec. 1, 11:00 a.m., at Riverside Church in Hutchinson, with interment in First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe. Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe and did continue on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service, at Riverside Church in Hutchinson.
The officiant was Steven Perschau.

Judy Ann (Bauer) Schuch, 75, Glencoe

Judy Ann (Bauer) Schuch, age 75, of Glencoe, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at her home surrounded by family in Glencoe. Memorial Service was held Monday, November 28,2022, 11:00 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Gathering of family & friends was held Sunday, November 27, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, and did continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
The officiating clergy wasPastor Daniel Welch. The organist was Paul Otte.

Joyce M. Schmidt, 96, Hutchinson

Joyce M. Schmidt, age 96, of Hutchinson, formerly of Glencoe, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, November 29, 2022, 11:00 a.m.M., at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment following at the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, November 28, 2022, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. A prayer service was held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Jeannette Gladys (Regnell) Nelson, 101, Glencoe

Jeannette Gladys (Regnell) Nelson, age 101, of Glencoe, formerly of LeSueur, passed away Monday, November 21, at GlenFields Living With Care in Glencoe. Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 3, 11:00 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment at a later date at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
The officiating clergy will be Pastor Elizabeth Becker. The pianist will be Twyla Kirkeby.
