National Honor Society has annual induction ceremony

The Glencoe-Silver Lake High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) had its annual induction ceremony Saturday, March 25, adding 18 new members.
First-year members who were inducted include Brittney Medina, Ashlyn Stuewe, Jessica Alsleben, Ariel Brelje, Kyle Christensen, Zoe Christensen, Mackenzie Davis, Mickalyn Frahm, Aubrey Giesen, Lexi Hansch, Mariah Koester, Paul Lemke, Paige Litzau, Tarin Michaelis, Laura Popelka, Taryn Reichow, Ellie Schmidt and Sierra Trebesch.


Mayor vetoes lawn mower purchase

Glencoe Mayor Randy Wilson vetoed a lawn mower purchase that was approved by the City Council on March 20.
At the March 20 meeting, Public Works Director Jamie Voigt made a request to the City Council to purchase a riding lawn mower.
He presented two quotes to the council with the plan to finance the purchase over three years.
The council accepted the low quote of $17,200 from Arnolds of Glencoe to purchase a Kubota lawn mower, but pay it in full rather than over three years.


Glencoe City Council sets GRHS WAC, SAC fees

Glencoe Regional Health Services (GRHS) experienced “sticker shock” when it received the proposed water availability charge (WAC)  and sewer availability charge (SAC) for its long-term care project.
After presenting the concerns to the city of Glencoe’s finance committee on March 22, the city agreed to review the proposed charges and look into WAC and SAC in similar communities.
The city has used formulas from the Met Council to determine the charges for WAC and SAC for more than 20 years.


GSL speech team: benefits found beyond competitions

Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools has a small, but dedicated and determined, speech team this year that has done very well in competition despite its size.
The team is heading into the Section 4A tournament, set for Saturday at Watertown. The top three competitors in each category at the section tournament will advance to state, which will be Saturday, April 22, at Apple Valley High School.
Team members have a variety of reasons for participating, most of which focused on the challenges and benefits of competing in the speech program.

Notice is hereby given that the Round Grove Township Board, McLeod County, State of Minnesota, is advertising for sealed quotes on 4,000 cubic yards, more or less, of #5 crushed  (¾ inch) gravel to be delivered on township roads by July 15, 2017. The gravel is required to be spread according to the maps that will be provided by the township.
