GACC welcomes new president

There is nothing like starting a brand new job and having some of the organizations biggest events happening within your first couple of weeks.
That is where Becky Edwards found herself when she began her role as the new Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce president Oct. 23.
She jumped right in taking on the finishing touches of the annual chamber banquet that was held Nov. 1 and the upcoming Seasonal Sampler Nov. 17 and Holly Days isn’t too far behind.
Edwards is ready to take on the challenge head on. She is excited for the new opportunity.

City wages fall behind the average

Hiring quality employees and keeping them is a constant battle for any employer and the City of Glencoe is no exception.
Over the last months, the Glencoe City Council and staff have discussed the best ways to attract quality candidates and retain them once they are hired. Competitive wages in one of those wages.
City department heads have heard that employees leave for higher wages elsewhere.
Earlier this year, city staff recommended do a wage study to identify where Glencoe sits in comparison to other communities in the wages. The cost of the proposed study was around $6,000.

GSL Alumni Spotlight: Malayh Metcalf, Cross-Country/Track and Field, St. Thomas

Panther Senior Spotlight: Eli Ehrke, football and basketball

On Wednesday morning this
past week Eli Ehrke officially
signed a letter of intent to play
basketball for division II University
of Sioux Falls. “I’m relieved,
now I can focus on the season,”
Ehrke said of the official commitment.
The University of Sioux
Falls was Ehrke’s top college
choice because of the colleges emphasis
on business management,
which will be Ehrke’s area of
study. In fact, a majority of
Ehrke’s future basketball teammates
at USF are also business
majors.

GSL Panther tennis: three decades, one coach

This fall marked the GSL
tennis programs 30th year in
existence. The program started
in the fall of 1994, which was
the first year that Glencoe and
Silver Lake consolidated.
Head coach Robert
DeCorsey has been at the helm
for all 30 of those years. You
could call it an accident though,
as DeCorsey was only supposed
to be the assistant coach
when the new program was
formed. Then athletic director
Kathy Olson had another person
lined up to be the head
coach, a name now forgotten to
time, but as the fates would
have it, the other coach flaked
and GSL tennis would fall into
