Panther girls basketball wins two more conference games

Glencoe - The GSL Panthers defeated Annandale on Thursday night 63-55 for their third straight confernce win. The Panthers started quick, jumping out to a 9-0 lead.
Annandale crept back into the game, getting a loose ball layup with 8:39 to play in the first half to cut GSL’s lead to 17-12.

Kaczmarek, Wischnack state-bound; Hahn section 5A coach of the year

Watertown - The GSL Panther gymnastics team will have two representatives at the state tournament this Saturday. Junior Autumn Kaczmarek and Freshman Jacey Wischnack both qualified for state meet in the floor event by scoring a 8.975 and a 8.95 respectively.
For Wischnack, this will be her second consecutive year qualifying for the state individual meet in floor. “I’m going to work on some new skills this week and hopefully throw them in,” Wischnack said of her goal to improve her score at state.

Panther Paws Gymnastics heading to MAGA Championships

The Panther Paws gymnastics teams wrapped up the regular season on Sunday.
The black and silver teams posted their highest scores of the season of 113.35 and 101.05 respectively.
The purple team finished with their second highest scores of the season of 101.95. All three teams have qualified for the 2024 MAGA Championships in Rochester.

Glencoe City Council receives presentation on potential public safety building

The Glencoe City Council hosted a workshop meeting on Feb. 12, where city council members toured the Glencoe Police and Fire Stations. Additional members in attendance included Glencoe Police Chief Tony Padilla, Glencoe Fire Chief Cory Schiedt, and Glencoe Public Works Directors Mark Lemen and Jamie Voigt.

GSL School Board entertains idea of solar energy project on campus

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board during their Feb. 12 meeting received a presentation from iDEAL Energies Senior Vice President of Development Rich Ragatz on a potential solar project to take place on the Glencoe-Silver Lake Junior/Senior High School campus.

McLeod County Children’s Mental Health Case Manager Dave Jorgensen retired after nearly 32 years of service on Jan. 31.

Public safety building proposed to Glencoe City Council

Several deficiencies have been identified at the Glencoe Fire Station. The standard construction rate for a new public safety building has been $3 to 7 million.

Warm winter causes temporary road, trail closures

Unusually mild weather in February is impacting road and trail conditions in several parts of the state, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Several roads and motorized trails in state forests, state parks, recreation areas, and wildlife management areas are likely to close earlier than usual because they’re too soft and muddy to support vehicle traffic without causing damage, and some have closed already. The duration of the temporary closures depends on local weather and surface conditions, which are difficult to predict in this unusual winter.

Panther boys split conference road games

Litchfield - The Panther boys basketball team picked up a road win on Friday, coming from behind to defeat the Litchfield Dragons 71-65.
The two teams used a series of runs in the second half to wrestle the lead from each other. Coming out of halftime down 34-32, the Panthers mounted their first run right out of the gate, scoring the first six points to take a 38-34 lead.

Dance team season ends with strong showing at sections

Montevideo - The Pantherettes historic season came to an end last Saturday afternoon at the section 3A meet in Montevideo. The final meet did not come without a few more “first’s” for the program.
The Pantherettes finished the jazz competition scoring 416 points, which is a whopping 67 points higher than last years 349 points at sections.
