Ronald Oelfke, 86

Ronald (Ron or Ronnie) Oelfke, 86, most recently of Glencoe, MN, but previously of rural Hamburg, MN, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Pla ine, MN.
Ron’s memorial service took place Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the church where he was baptized, confirmed, and served for his entire life, Emanuel Lutheran in Hamburg. Rev. Todd Bentz officiated. Visitation took place there one hour prior to the service, and a luncheon followed in the church fellowship area.

Stanley Nowak, 91

Stanley M. Nowak, 91, of Silver Lake, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at Harmony River, Hutchinson, MN.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with Father John Hayes officiating.
Visitation will take place two hours before Mass, starting with a rosary at 8:30 a.m. A private interment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors.

Busse hits hole-in-one

For the second time in less than a week, a Busse brother hit a big time shot. This time it would be GSL junior Logan Busse. Busse hit a hole in one on hole number eight at the Glencoe Country Club on Wednesday, March 13.
The hole in one comes just six days after his younger brother Lincoln hit a buzzer beating shot for the Panthers to defeat MVL on March 7.

Warm, dry winter heightens drought concerns

Year-round water conservation is beneficial
With less than half the average snowfall across much of the state and extraordinarily warm winter temperatures, drought conditions in Minnesota have persisted through the winter. Abnormally dry conditions exist throughout the state and about half of Minnesota is in moderate or severe drought.

Alton E. Lean, 93, of Stewart, MN, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, MN.
A memorial service will take place Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, with interment at a later date in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Eldorado Township, ND.
A gathering of family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Former GSL alum Miah Monahan excelling at the division one level

With the Minnesota girls state tournament in the rear view mirror and the boys state tournament wrapping up this Saturday, the basketball world will focus full attention on the men's and women's division one NCAA tournament.
GSL alum and current division one women's basketball player Miah Monahan is excelling at Eastern Illinois.
Monahan’s high school career for GSL is well known for those that were close with the Panther program.
The 2021 graduate was moved up to the varsity level as an eighth grader, playing with her two older sisters Maddie and McKenna.

Glencoe City Council moves forward with purchase of truck for public works

During Glencoe City Council’s Monday meeting, Glencoe Public Works Director Jamie Voigt delivered a request from the City of Glencoe Street/Park Department to purchase a 2024 pickup truck to replace the 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck the department uses.

McLeod Emergency Food Shelf underway with March Campaign

The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf (MEFS) is in the midst of its drive to raise donations for GMCC’s Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign. Minnesota FoodShare began in 1982 as a campaign advanced by congregations to restock food shelves in the 7-county Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.
The March Campaign became a statewide initiative one year later and is a collaboration between organizations, faith communities, businesses, and individuals to support the capacity of nearly 300 food shelves. The 2024 March Campaign will run from Feb. 26 through Apr. 6.

Glencoe Planning and Industrial Commission hosts meeting reviewing zoning ordinance

The Glencoe Planning and Industrial Commission (PIC) hosted a meeting on March 14 where they reviewed zoning ordinances and the city zoning map with city attorney Mark Ostlund.
