Barbara Mathwig, 66

Barbara Lynn Mathwig, 66, of Brownton, MN, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at her home in Brownton surrounded by her family.
Visitation will take place Friday, April 5, 2024, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Immanual Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Barbara Lynn was born Aug. 25, 1957, in Arlington, MN, to Gerhard and Lorna (Reinitz) Jahr.

Maxine Haekenkamp, 95

Maxine Phyllis Haekenkamp, 95, of rural Winsted, MN, after a brief illness, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
She was born at home June 22, 1928, in St. Paul, the daughter of Maximillian Henry and Tillie (Wawrzyniak) Skweres.
On Feb. 3, 1948, Maxine P. Skweres and Edwin H. Haekenkamp were joined in holy matrimony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with nine children.

Death notice: Donald Beich, 85, of Stewart

Donald P. H. Beich, 85, of Stewart, MN, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Glencoe Regional Health in Glencoe, MN.
A funeral service took place Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton, MN, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation took place Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 5 to 8 p.m., and continued one hour prior to the service, all at the Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Military honors were by American Legion DeGree Fleisch Post 125 Honor Guard of Stewart.

Unfinished business motivates 2024 Panther softball

There is lots to look forward to in this season’s GSL softball team. The Panthers will return eight starters from last year's team that went 20-7 (10-4 in Wright County Conference play) and made it to the precipice of the state tournament.
The Panthers will unfortunately have to replace starting right fielder and 2023 Wright County all-conference honorable mention Brooklyn Christianson who will miss her senior season due to a knee injury.

Panther baseball to feature a youthful core in 2024

The GSL Panther baseball team will kick the 2024 season off on Thursday, April 11 when the team travels to take on the Annandale Cardinals.
The Panthers will look to improve on a 12-12 (7-7 WCC) record in 2023. Doing so won't be easy as the team must replace three key seniors from a year ago in Brady Graupmann, Damion Schwartz, and Logan Christensen.
“Those will be difficult positions to fill, they were two to three year contributors,” Head coach Dean Schwirtz said of last years seniors.

Panther girls golf to begin season Monday, April 8

The GSL Panther girls golf team will tee the 2024 season off on Monday, April 8 when they host Waconia in a nine-hole dual at the Glencoe Country Club.
The Panthers will have to replace 2023 graduates Alyssa Radtke and Brooke Brown from last years team.
Alyssa Radtke finished 11th overall in conference during the regular season, and then made it to day two in section play, earning a Wright County all-conference selection for her terrific play as a senior.

Bergmann’s constructing new building in Hutchinson; to change name

Bergmann Interiors is constructing a new 12,000-square-foot building in Hutchinson where the business will move to in the summer.
Bergmann Interiors was sold by longtime owner Bruce Bergmann to current owner Brent Posusta in May 2023. The move will also coincide with a name change for the business.
Posusta says the business will still be in Glencoe until June as they wait for the new building which will be twice the size of its current building to finish construction. He says the reason the business is moving to Hutchinson is for “more space.”

City Council briefed on Emerald Ash Borer situation in Glencoe

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) detected an infestation of emerald ash borer (EAB) in Glencoe after MDA inspectors identified several infested trees while conducting early detection surveys in the area.

Proposed dog park at Oscar Olson Sunrise Park

The proposed dog park is expected to cost $51,570 to construct. $20,000 in donations would need to be raised for the project.

Glencoe Park Board earmarks $12,500 to the Rotary Club for dog park project

Glencoe Rotary Club President Julie Schmidt presented to the Glencoe Park Board during its March 27 meeting about the potential construction of a dog park at Oscar Olson Sunrise Park.
The park is expected to cost $51,570 to construct, with fencing alone costing $36,215. The Glencoe Rotary Club would like to contribute $15,070 towards the project and has requested a $12,500 contribution from the Park Board.
