Helen Mayer, 96

Helen Marie Mayer, 96, of Glencoe, MN, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment following at the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation took place Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., one-and-a-half hours before the service at the church.
Clergy officiating: Father Matthew Wiering.
Pianist: Carrie Knott.

Jerome Warzecha, 85

Jerome Frank Warzecha, 85, of Glencoe, MN, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Lakeside Generations Assisted Living in Dassel, MN.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment following at the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation took place Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Clergy: Father Matthew Wiering.
Organist: Sue Mielke.
Song leaders: Gus and Irene Makovsky.

Marjorie Block, 98

Marjorie “Margie” E. Block, 98, of Hutchinson, MN, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Ecumen Pines in Hutchinson.
A funeral service took place Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Hassan Valley Township, MN, with interment in the church cemetery.
Clergy officiating: Pastor Barry Marchant.

Charles Ponath, 90

Charles W. Ponath, 90, of Glencoe, MN, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at his residence.
A memorial service took place Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church (925 13th Street East) in Glencoe, with Rev. Dan Welch officiating.
A gathering of family and friends took place at the church Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment took place in the Glencoe City Cemetery. Military honors was provided by Glencoe VFW Post 5102.

Carol Navratil, 93

Carol Mae Navratil, 93, of Silver Lake, MN, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 at The Cokato Manor.
She was born Jan. 12, 1931, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Plihal) Pesina.
Carol Mae Pesina and Gerald James Navratil were joined in holy marriage Sept. 6, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with three sons.
She was a faithful and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

McLeod Food Shelf hires new executive director

The McLeod Food Shelf hired former United Community Action Partnership outreach worker and tax site coordinator Carrie Lewis as their executive director on Dec. 18. Lewis succeeds long-time executive director Lennie Albers, who held the position for ten years.

Stroll for Hope ends partnership with American Cancer Society; starts one with Hutchinson Health Foundation

Stroll for Hope, formerly known as Relay for Life of McLeod County, has ended its partnership with the American Cancer Society and partnered with the Hutchinson Health Foundation as of Jan. 1. Stroll for Hope Lead Chair Erika Smith says the organization had been discussing the “pros and cons” of staying or leaving the partnership with the American Cancer Society over the last year.
Smith says while the American Cancer Society does “amazing things” with the funds raised by Stroll for Hope, they don’t always have a “clear picture” of how those funds are utilized.
