Death notice: Adeline Hlavka, 94

Adeline Elaine Hlavka, 94, of Silver Lake, MN, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, MN, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian burial for Adeline Elaine Hlavka will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, MN.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. There will be a CCW rosary at 6 p.m. and parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. Further visitation will take place at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 22 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Death notice: Tammy Schultz, 64

Tammy R. Schultz, 64, of Hutchinson, MN, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.
A celebration of life took place Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Art’s Place in Hutchinson.

Donald Richard Radoush, 85, of Silver Lake, MN, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024.
Funeral services for Donald Radoush will take place Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. Pastor Laura Messer will officiate. Military rites will follow services.
A visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to services Thursday, Jan. 18.

GSL gymnasts post highest score in recent memory

Glencoe - The GSL Panther gymnasts hit a milestone last Thursday evening, posting a team score of 131.4. The score qualifies as the highest in coach Kim Hahn’s 11 year tenure as head coach of the Panthers.

GSL Panthers secure thrilling victory with buzzer-beater against Central High, Eli Ehrke's heroic tip-in seals 75-74 win

GSL 75, Central 74
Glencoe - The GSL Panther boys basketball team defeated Central high school last Tuesday night, needing an Eli Ehrke tip-in at the buzzer to win 75-74.
Ehrke’s game winning basket represented GSL’s first and only lead of the game and came with no time on the clock as the ball was still gravitating towards the basket as the backboard light illuminated it’s neon orange light, signifying that time had run out.

The McLeod Alliance prepares for its upcoming Bowlathon event

The McLeod Alliance is hosting its 26th annual Bowlathon at Hutch Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The McLeod Alliance asks that participants collect a minimum of $40 in pledges to participate in the Bowlathon, which will have two sessions from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.
“The purpose of the event is to fundraise for our services, and we serve victims and survivors of domestic violence in McLeod County,” McLeod Alliance Executive Director Amanda Raisanen said. “So that’s what all the profits go towards is kind of making up for any type of deficits we might have in the budget.”

Glencoe Police Department addresses lack of officers with creation of new position

The Glencoe City Council approved the Community Service Officer, or CSO, position at its Nov. 3 meeting. The position is a part-time, non-sworn position that is assigned to assist the department with tasks such as animal control, blight violations, parking issues, equipment maintenance, and deliveries. The Glencoe Police Department hired Glencoe native Marco Iracheta to fill the position.
