Hedlunds announce birth

Crystal and Robert Hedlund of Hutchinson announce the arrival of a son, Cole Robert Hedlund, who was born Aug. 7, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Cole weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 191⁄2 inches long at birth. He is welcomed by his brother, John, and his grandparents, Kevin and Linda Smestad of Hutchinson, Deb Hedlund of Howard Lake and the late John Hedlund.

Vincent weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 213⁄4 inches long at birth. Bruce Johnson and Jordan Villapudua of Brownton announce the birth of a son, Bentley Christopher Johnson, who arrived Aug. 9, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Bentley weighed 9 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 22 inches long. He is welcomed by his grandparents, Chris Joecks of Cedar Mills, Kari Peterson of Parker, Arizona, and Hecter Villapudua of Twentynine Palms, California.

Man flees from sentence to service crew

The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office said a Gaylord man who fled a sentence to service crew near Gibbon Monday, Aug. 14, was found after a 41⁄2-hour search.
The sheriff’s office said that Patrick Moses Jr., 26, of Gaylord, left the group at about 1:10 p.m. The group was working at the Clear Lake County Park south of Gibbon.

Trailblazer tables signing line of credit

The Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board on Thursday tabled an agreement with Security Bank & Trust to provide a $1 million line of credit to help with cash flow between payments from the federal government and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Trailblazer was recently faced with such a revenue gap, and ended up borrowing $200,000 from McLeod County Social Services to cash flow operations until expected payments from the federal and state transportation departments came in.

Motions to discard, amend ordinance fail at Glencoe Planning Commission

City of Glencoe Planning Commission Member Lynn Exsted set forth two motions at the Aug. 17 meeting, both having to do with the metal vertical siding ordinance in Glencoe.
First, Exsted made the motion to recommend to the City Council that the ordinance not allowing vertical metal vertical siding in residential districts be removed from the city code (510.12). Exsted’s motion was seconded by Commission Member David Stark.

Brownton’s proposed $8.4 million project outlined at public hearing

Approximately 50 people attended the city of Brownton’s public hearing Aug. 15 on its proposed $8.4 million utility and street improvement project.
John Rodeberg, an engineer with Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc. (SEH), the city’s engineering firm, noted that while many are concerned about assessments for the project, this hearing was to explain the needs driving the project. He did, however, add that the assessment policy would be explained during the hearing as the funding sources were outlined.

Silver Lake City Council looks at demolition financing options

The Silver Lake City Council heard a couple of possible options for financing the demolition of four substandard buildings on Main Street at its meeting on Monday.
Rebecca Kurtz of Ehlers and Associates, a financial consulting firm, informed the council that there are limited options.
The first and probably best option would be to create a tax increment financing (TIF) district, which would allow the city to capture the increased tax increment to repay any cost of redevelopment for up to 26 years.

Amend the ordinance on vertical siding?

The Glencoe City Council, its planning commission and its personnel and legislative committee have all been involved in discussions on vertical siding in residential areas.
Currently, the city ordinance prohibits vertical siding in residential areas, and conversation about it was sparked from a request for a variance to allow vertical siding that had already been installed on a garage.
At the latest Glencoe Planning and Industrial Commission meeting, a commission member proposed eliminating the ban on vertical siding in residential areas.

He’s offended by the faces on currency

I have decided to toss all $1 bills out of my wallet and all quarters are immediately banned from my pants pockets. Nickels are gone, too. And that $2 bill on my dresser? It’s history!
Why?
Because the presidents immortalized on them have a tarnished record of being slave owners … more than 200 years ago. It doesn’t matter it was centuries ago and they were founding fathers, in current logic they are still accountable for their actions (by today’s standards).
