Bar owners hoping experience leads to success in Glencoe

Sitting on a stool, at the corner of the bar, a regular known as Kenneth Exsted’s friends call him “The Governor.” He watches Happy Hour’s new owners tend to customers. He’s seen the downtown Glencoe bar change hands before and so far, likes what he sees.
“They’re doing a good job taking care of people,” he said. “So far, it looks pretty good.”

Despite changes, council approves Helen Baker plat

Despite a change in the original plat, Glencoe City Council Monday night gave its approval to the final revised plat for Helen Baker Estates First Addition. The city’s planning and industrial commission also recommended approval.
The revised plat will include 12 single-family homes in the first addition running along 16th Street. The original plat was for six twin homes in that area.
Council member Allen Robeck asked that since the plat had been revised, perhaps another public hearing should be held.

New hotel to receive half million tax abatement

Glencoe City Council Monday night completed unfinished business with the developers of a new hotel in Glencoe.
Glencoe Hotel Group, LLC proposed the hotel project, asked and received $500,000 in tax abatement and then sought relief from the city’s water availability and sewer availability charges (WAC/SAC).
The group also suggested a reduction of those SAC/WAC fees to $54,000 to be paid over a five-year period, or annual principal payments of $10,800 each year. The payments would begin 12 months after the construction is complete and after the project receives the city’s occupancy permit.
