A letter to the community from Glencoe Regional Health

Glencoe Regional Health (GRH) has been your trusted healthcare resource for over 80 years. We are proud to serve this community – it is our daily focus and mission. Whether it’s through services at our hospital or clinics, or needing care for a family member in our GlenFields nursing home, we are here for you. However, we have never faced a battle like the one we face today. The global pandemic is impacting healthcare in your own backyard.

A reporter bids Glencoe, area farewell

When people enter their final year of college, stress of finding a job in their field often accompanies the excitement of never having to cram for a final exam again.
That fear lingered around me when I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in spring 2020. In the world of COVID-19, how was I going to find a job doing something I loved?
Then something magical happened. I landed a job here at the Chronicle as a staff writer in June 2020. Not only was it a position in the field I had studied, but it was a chance for me to get immersed in a new community, learn and grow.

LETTER – Social Security, Medicare need a broader funding source

To the editor,
The article, “Do our elected leaders genuinely care about labor” (Sept. 15) by Amanda Bowden brings up an important issue. In my opinion, it is unfortunate that Social Security and Medicare funds are now solely funded by labor.
This funding was somewhat adequate when labor income was a major source of income in our economy. This has changed because of automation, which has made investment income now a major source of income, which Amanda Bowden correctly acknowledges.

He wonders, what does it mean to be an American?

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what it means to be an American, to have a shared stake in this country and its fortunes.
In some ways, I suppose the question is unanswerable: We are a vast, diverse country, and we each answer the question in our own way.

It’s your money – Our view: Local levies should get additional review

The process of establishing and approving local property tax levies for 2022 is a complicated endeavor balancing plans to serve the public with the tax liability the public will accept.
Citizens who seemingly pay little or no attention 51 weeks a year but are quick to complain when the property tax statement arrives complicate the process. They turn to social media with half-truths demonstrating a lack of understanding of processes.
