Gutter work

A crew from Curb Masters of South St. Paul worked on pouring, shaping and smoothing new concrete curb and gutter along North Greeley Avenue last week. The work is part of the 2020 street improvement project. Curb Masters is a sub-contractor for Molnau Trucking.

Red Cross blood drive collects needed blood, draws people together in Plato

Larissa Heyer, 22, was one of the many American Red Cross workers at Plato’s community blood drive June 23 hosted by the Plato Lions. The American Red Cross does blood drives three to four times a week, according to their organizer that day, Ian Dinsmore. “It’s a really good job knowing I’m helping people,” Arianna Cerritos, another worker for the Red Cross said. Plato’s next community blood drive takes place Oct. 15.

BMX racers open season

BMX racers – (from left) Oliver Larson, Aden Carrigan and Ashton LaPlante – were among the riders who recently enjoyed a practice session at the Glencoe track. Regular racing action began last night.

Garage sale without the garage

Glencoe and area residents stopped by the former Church of Peace at 520 11th St. E. Thursday, June 25 for a garage sale. There were plenty of clothes for young children as well as household items, books, toys and electronics. Buffalo Creek Community Church is now meeting at Church of Peace. The garage sale was designed to help fund an exterior painting project at the church. Volunteers from Buffalo Creek Community Church have already completed painting inside the building. They plan to do the exterior painting themselves, reducing the cost of the work to around $3,000 or less.

COVID-19 pandemic forces dental practices to change processes

Walking into the dentist’s office, checking in at the front desk and waiting in the lobby won’t be the norm for people in the foreseeable future as dental offices have reopened its doors.
Dental offices shut down for routine care in late March thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many dentists were only available for emergency appointments for two months until they were allowed to reopen at the end of May. With this came many changes for everyone though.

Glencoe is in an interesting and unusual position when it comes to aid for the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had to date.

Red Cross blood drive collects needed blood, draws people together in Plato

Fifty-four pints of blood were donated June 23 when the Plato Lions Club hosted its community blood drive with the American Red Cross.
People donned their masks at the Light House Assembly of God Church in Plato as they donated blood from noon to 6 p.m.
Masks were a requirement and people were strongly encouraged to have been registered with them in advance.
“It’s more sanitizing,” American Red Cross worker Arianna Cerritos said. “No walk-ins, more gloves than ever. We sanitize everything after every person.”

McLeod County wants people wearing face masks in crowded public areas

McLeod County is encouraging people to wear non-medical grade face masks in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Minnesota Department of Health says 10-50 percent of virus carriers are asymptomatic. Wearing masks helps control the virus and has been shown to lower COVID-19 spread, according to a McLeod County press release. MDH says people should avoid enclosed spaces with groups of people, where the virus can linger in the air for long periods of time.
