Letter – McLeod County trail maintenance plan still needed

To the editor,
With July coming, we need to prepare for another full-court push to pave more bike trails in McLeod County. Will this push be coming from county residents? No, it will likely be led by the same small group of local politicians who follow the pied piper seeking ‘free’ Legacy grants. The problem is, that these ‘free’ grants come with strings obligating McLeod County for millions of dollars of maintenance costs over the next 20-years.

You can call it a rally. Call it a protest. Whatever you call it, we hope you heard the message.
People had good reason to worry about the planned rally/protest June 2 on the lawn east of the McLeod County Courthouse. Drawing on fear from what took place the previous weekend in Minneapolis and St. Paul, there was plenty of threatening chatter on social media. A police officer went door to door in the downtown area warning business owners to keep an eye on their buildings.

Erma Pagel, 88, of Glencoe passed away Sunday, June 14, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 10 to 11 a.m., at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Arlington Public Cemetery.


Margaret Nemec, 92, of Glencoe

Margaret (Strickland) Nemec, 92, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, June 7, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Arlington.
A private family Mass of Christian burial was held at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
The Rev. Anthony Stubeda was the officiating clergy.
Bill Soeffker, Tom Riehm, Michael Moore, Sean Tritabaugh, Brandon Becker and Jason VonBerge were the casket-bearers.


Lois Herrmann, 84, of Glencoe

Lois A. Herrmann, 84, of Glencoe, passed away Friday June 12, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday June 27, at First Ev. Lutheran Church (925 E. 13th St.) in Glencoe with Rev. Dan Welch as officiant. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m. Social distancing will be observed. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery.


Brenda Miller, 57, of Penn Township

Brenda K. Miller, 57, of Penn Township, passed away Sunday, June 7, at her home in Penn Township.
A funeral service was held Saturday, June 13, 1 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, with interment following in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Brownton.
Rev. R. Allan Reed was the officiating clergy.
Vicki Herrmann was the organist and soloist Kristen Hansch performed, “Hallelujah.”
“How Great Thou Art,” “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today” were the congregational hymns.
Brenda’s nieces and nephews were the honorary casket-bearers.


Pearl (Just) Jerabek-Branden, 92, of Silver Lake

Pearl Lucille (Just) Jerabek-Branden, daughter of Albert and Lydia Just, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, at Cedar Crest Estates in Silver Lake.
A private memorial service for Pearl Branden will be held Friday, June 26, 3 p.m., at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake.
A public visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. Further visitation will be held Friday, June 26, 1 p.m., at the church. Social distancing will be required.

A memorial service was held Thursday, June 11, 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato.
Pastor Brian Brosz was the officiating clergy.
Diane Anderson was the organist.
“Wings of a Snow White Dove,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Here I Am, Lord” were the congregational hymns.


Norma Domras, 73, of Mayer

Norma Jean Domras, 73, of Mayer was taken home to Jesus May 27, after being hospitalized in Florida for three months due to many complications from a blood clot. She put up a valiant fight to recover from surgery and get back home to her family but that was not in God’s plans. Through all the suffering she endured, she never lost her faith in God.
