From New Jersey to South Carolina to Brownton, Cichy enjoying the lifestyle

Ken Cichy grew up in New Jersey and now lives in South Carolina. He has learned to appreciate small town, rural life. Cichy recently visited the Tongen family farm in Brownton where he helped with planting. Cichy is married to Rebecca Tongen.

A family celebrates move-in day

After months of construction, Teresa Rannow, Trinity Johnson and their children Liberty (far left) and Xander cut the ribbon at a ceremony Friday afternoon. Rannow and Johnson closed on a 30-year mortgage for a home from Crow River Habitat for Humanity. Along with volunteers, the couple worked on the three-bedroom single-level house on North Baldwin Avenue during its construction. (Right), Pastor Katherine Rood from the Christ Lutheran Church, blessed the house and each room after the ribbon-cutting.

Brownton City Council OKs tentative settlement with R & R

A socially distanced Brownton City Council and John Rodeberg, the city engineer from SEH, held a teleconference with City Attorney Kenneth Janssen to discuss a possible settlement of disagreement over payment to R & R Excavating for its work during the 2018 street project.

On ‘Tour’ with GSL

Teachers and staff from Glencoe-Silver Lake School District toured the five cities in the district Thursday afternoon, May 7. The tour of the district gave staff the chance to reconnect with students and their families. With a school bus at the front and back of the procession, the tour included dozens of cars, SUVs and trucks making their way through downtown Silver Lake. Families came out to wave and greet the visiting GSL teachers and staff.

American Legion pulls summer baseball off the field

The GSL American Legion baseball team won’t be playing its home games in Plato this summer. Leaders of the national American Legion baseball program announced last week the American Legion summer baseball program was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic

Supporting those on the front lines

Staff at Glencoe Regional Regional Health unloaded roasters contained three varieties of cooked pulled pork, sandwich buns and chips donated by Lazy Loon Brewing Company in Glencoe Thursday, May 7. The business donated lunch for 275-plus staffers at the hospital and long-term care facility.

Glencoe Days canceled

For the safety and well being of the community, the Glencoe Days Committee has decided to officially cancel this year’s celebration.
The committee is still planning and hoping to have events throughout the summer that comply with all social distancing requirements.

MnDOT eyes ‘J-turns’ for Glencoe, area

Two intersections with Highway 212 in Glencoe and Helen Township west of Plato will have a different look once the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) completes installation of J-turns.
MnDOT is planning to install J-turns at the intersections of Highway 212 and North Chandler Avenue and Highway 212 and County Road 1 (Dairy Avenue).

Board waiting on decision to hold 2020 McLeod County Fair

Members of the McLeod County Fair Board will decide by July 1 whether the 2020 county fair would join the list of casualties of the coronavirus pandemic.

In most every imaginable way, Little Falls, N.J. is a long way from Brownton. Ken Cichy enjoys the difference.
Cichy grew up in Little Falls. It’s about 30 miles northwest of New York City. The community of just over 14,000 people named for a small waterfall on the Passaic River was a nice place to grow up, but he’s grown to enjoy a more relaxed pace of life.
