Glencoe City Council moving ahead with 2020 street project

The city is hoping for a state grant that will fund repairs to East 11th Street near Kwik Trip. The road’s surface has significant deterioration, in part from heavy trucks. The road would be transformed to a 10-ton road that can support truck traffic.

Panthers advance trio to state wrestling tourney

Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie 160-pounder Keegan Lemke took control of Tanner Burmeister of Watertown Mayer-Mayer Lutheran in the second place match Saturday during the sectional competition in Hutchinson. Lemke defeated Burmeister to win a trip to the state meet with teammates Carter Ruschmeier and Sawyer Varpness.

The ‘Eliminator Challenge’

A GSL Winterfest tradition dating back 15 to 20 years, students took on the “Eliminator Challenge’ Friday, Feb. 20. The event challenges students to complete an obstacle course which includes throwing a football, disc and balls at targets set up in the school’s old gymnasium before they are struck by a tennis ball. Junior Caleb Diaz clears a hurdle without being hit. Despite their best efforts, most of the students were unable to successfully complete the obstacle course.

GSL students made math count at chapter competition in Mankato

The GSL MathCounts team recently enjoyed a solid showing at a competition in Mankato. GSL boys find going rough against Rockford in regular-season home finale

GSL junior forward Jaden Uecker powered a shot up and over Rockford center Calvin Sisk in the second half of the Panthers clash with the Rockets Friday in Glencoe. Rockford filed a 73-60 win over GSL.

GSL student Mason Manteuffel, along with Jason Schmitz, entertained students with humor during the Winterfest Talent Show Thursday, Feb. 20, in the high school auditorium.

Panthers advance trio to state wrestling tourney

Heading into the final round of competition, four Glencoe-Silver Lake wrestlers were positioned to earn berths in the Class AA state wrestling tournament this week at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
When all four of them lost their championship bouts, GSL coach Lance Wurm told them they would have to earn a trip to St. Paul through determination to win a true second-place finish.

Greeley vaults to top-20 showing at state gymnastics

Marissa Greeley had already accomplished the goal she set for herself earlier this year. She was competing at the state gymnastics meet.
A top-20 finish made a really good season even better.

Panthers preparing for rematch with Jordan

Having completed the regular season and enjoying a successful first round of post-season play, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team is prepared to face a tough task to keep its season alive.
After defeating Tri-City United Monday night, Feb. 24, in its first round of the Section 2AA north sub-section contest, the Panthers will face Jordan Friday night, Feb. 28, in New Prague in the first of two sub-section semifinal contests. The first game is set for a 6 p.m. start. The GSL-Jordan tilt is expected to begin around 7:45 p.m.

GSL boys find going rough against Rockford in regular-season home finale

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team will complete its conference schedule Thursday, Feb. 27, and the Panthers are looking for all the momentum they can get.
The Panthers expect they will open Section 2AA north sub-section play Saturday, Feb. 29, 7 p.m., at home. The opponent is currently listed as TBD until after the seeding process is completed today, Feb. 26. Panthers coach Robb DeCorsey is predicting a No. 3 seed, a seeding high enough to grant GSL a home game Saturday evening.
