GSL/LP wrestlers head into section meet on a roll

The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team might not have enjoyed the regular season success it hoped for, but the Panthers are heading into the section tournament tomorrow night, February 13, 6 p.m., on a bit of a roll.

Girls’ hoops on four-game winning streak, won 8 of last 11

Since the Panthers girls’ basketball team went on a four-game losing streak, it’s rebounded with a four-game winning streak, capping eight wins of its last 11 games.

GSL 56, Tri-City 48
In a continuation of a previously canceled tournament hosted at GSL, the Tri-City United team didn’t have what it takes to beat the Panthers.
Monahan, scoring 30 points in the game, was and continues to be a staple in the Panthers starting five. Malayh Metcalf made a generous contribution too, dropping 9 points.
Brook Christianson had 7 points, Teagan Hansch had 6, and Courtney Richer had 4.

GSL gymnast, wrestler look to return to state stage: Ruschmeier aiming for the medal stand

Having lost both matches, it’d be easy for Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie sophomore wrestler Carter Ruschmeier to want to forget about last year’s all-too-brief appearance in the state wrestling tournament. Two matches, two defeats.
Instead, Ruschmeier plans to use the experience as motivation.
He faced a difficult draw as a freshman. He faced the eventual state champion, Jake Svihel of Totino-Grace. His final match of a fine season was a loss to Brandt Bombard of North Branch.

GSL gymnast, wrestler look to return to state stage: Greeley setting sights past sections

If not for a modest misstep in her floor routine last year during the section 2AA meet — quite literally, as her momentum during a floor routine forced an extra step on her landing — Marissa Greeley would’ve made it back to the Minnesota State High School League state meet for the second time. She earned a trip to the meet her freshman year, but missed it by a meager .05 points last year as a sophomore.

Gymnasts fall to NL-S, look to sections

Despite falling to a quality New London-Spicer team, which neared the 140-point mark, the Panthers highlighted the day with one of its best performances of the season — if not the best. It was the most points the GSL gymnasts have scored all season.
“Overall, they did awesome. We had higher scores the entire night and came away with a new season high of 127.075,” Head Coach Kim Hahn said.
“Obviously their hard work ethic is paying off,” Hahn said, noting that her gymnasts have been implementing new skills that they’ve been practicing throughout the season.

Boys’ basketball puts a jolt in Dassel-Cokato

With plenty of tough competition on the docket next week, the GSL boys’ hoops team took advantage of a winnable game last Thursday.
The Panthers will face tough competition this week. Tuesday, Feb. 11, after The Chronicle went to press, GSL travelled to Watertown-Mayer. Friday, Feb. 14, the Panthers will travel to Litchfield. Monday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m., Glencoe-Silver Lake will host Rockford. The Panthers topped Litchfield but fell to Watertown-Mayer and Mound Westonka last month. All three teams are above the Panthers in the WCC West standings.

Lights On! Minnesota program aims to improve officer-citizen relationship

Drivers who are pulled over in McLeod County for a faulty headlight may now receive a voucher that pays for the broken light instead of receiving a citation or “fix-it ticket.”
Lights On! Minnesota is a program intended to improve the relationship between police officers and the public while providing a voucher of up to $250 for much-needed safety repairs for busted or burned out lights. The vouchers work for headlights, taillights, turn signals, and virtually every bulb that contributes to on-road safety, usually at no cost to the driver.
