‘Millennial Farmer’ speaks at McLeod County Corn and Soybean Banquet

Zach Johnson, also known on YouTube as the Millennial Farmer, shows a video at the McLeod County Annual Corn and Soybean Growers’ Banquet. He has more than 400,000 YouTube subscribers as a west-central Minnesota farmer.

Hospice was part of his end-of-life plan

Pictured with his wife of 62 years, Eleanor, Larry Crabb spent the end of his life comfortable in Allina Home Health Care’s hospice program at GlenFields Living with Care. He passed away Jan. 13.

Lakeside musicians draw a big crowd

The Glencoe-Silver Lake Lakeside Elementary fifth-grade band performed “Rain, Rain, Go Away,” “Starlight, Starbright” and “Au Claire De La Lune” before the combined fifth- and sixth-grade choir sang a few selections of their own at a combined concert before a standing-room-only crowd in the school gymnasium Thursday, Jan. 23. Band director (pictured) for the band is Annie Zacho, and the choir director is Carrie Knott.

Girls hoops wins two of last three against tough opponents

In a stretch of games that saw the Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers knock off one of the top teams in the conference in Central High School (NYA), and a route of Mound Westonka, confidence is up in the locker room.
Although the three-game stretch also included a loss to Rockford, coach Jeff Monahan said he’s happy with the way his team’s performing, even in some aspects of the losses.

Gymnasts fall at home to Wildcats

The Panthers scored 123.025 points against Waconia Thursday night at home. Waconia scored 135.350 and had the all-around champion, Dani Miller, who scored 35.925.
On vault, Olivia Wanous earned an average score of 7.75 from the judges on her first attempt and 7.675 on her second. Emma Peirce hit a trio of 8.3s on her first attempt and scored an average of 8.35 on her second. Makayla Wigern scored an average of 8.6 and 8.7 for her attempts, and Autumn Kaczmarek earned an 8.525 for her first attempt and 8.65 for her second. Marissa Greeley had the high score with averages of 9.075 and 9.15.

GSL/LP takes royal thumping from Watertown-Mayer

With almost a handful of wrestlers out of the lineup against a team the Panthers knew would be a tough opponent under the best of circumstances Thursday, Jan. 23, Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie took a thumping at the hands of Watertown-Mayer.
The Royals topped the Panthers, 48-21. The Panthers were without their starters 132, 170, 220 and 285 pounds. Watertown-Mayer won the last two weight classes of the night by forfeit, expanding a 32-21 lead to a 27-point advantage with two forfeits.

GSL boys drop two, rebound on the road over Central

After a pair of tough defeats against upper-tier Wright County Conference West teams, GSL boys’ hoops team came home Saturday, a bit weary, but feeling good after a victory.
The Panthers fell to Mound Westonka by 13 points in Glencoe last Tuesday, Jan. 21. They suffered a 19-point thumping at Rockford Friday, Jan. 24, before finishing off the week with an eight-point win over Central.

Hospice was part of his end-of-life plan

Whether it was time with his family, playing jokes on people or time spent fishing, Larry Crabb lived life his way. It only made sense the Glencoe man chose his own path for care at the end of his life.
Crabb died Jan. 13 at GlenFields Living with Care from the effects of heart disease and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), a chronic lung condition in which the air sacs in a person’s lungs no longer work properly, making it difficult for them to breathe. He was 83.
