Tucked deep behind rows of trees off County Road 2 in Glencoe, a company sells covers for gutters to promote the unobstructed flow of stormwater. On the same property, nestled in a corner between a storage shed and a warehouse is a wood-fired kiln the Glencoe Ceramics Association uses to glaze their ceramic creations.
Primal science
It’s a Japanese-style wood-fired kiln, known as an anagama kiln. It dates back to 7000 B.C.E. according to Domonique Venzant, a frequent user of the kiln and a ceramics instructor at Century College in White Bear Lake. It’s primal science, he said.
