GSL’s Dan Cross named to state choir

Over the summer, GSL senior Dan Cross, performed in the Minnesota All-State Mixed Choir at St. Olaf College.
Cross was one of nearly 1,500 high school students across the state of Minnesota who auditioned for the different all-state groups. Judges listened to the students, evaluating them on their overall musicianship and technique. In mid-April 2019, the MMEA executive committee chose the final rosters, selecting Cross and 560 other students for the seven all-state groups.

MnDOT says farmers, drivers both need to share the road during harvest

Motorists traveling on Minnesota roads this fall should be aware of large farm equipment moving between fields and transporting crops to markets, grain elevators and processing plants, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
“Harvest season is ramping up across Minnesota and farmers need the highways to access their fields and deliver crops to market,” said Brian Sorenson, state traffic engineer.

Levy vote important to GSL; plenty of info is available

To the editor,
Hello GSL. It’s hard to believe that we are in October. The first month of our school year has been nothing short of outstanding. The teaching and learning that is going on every day at GSL has been done at a very high level. The culture that we are creating here has been caring, kind, respectful, and one that makes me proud to be a part of GSL.

First Amendment binds all American freedoms

By Jack ‘Miles’ Ventimiglia
Freedom of the press, of speech, of religion, of assembly and to petition the government are woven, like stars in the flag, into the fabric of the First Amendment.
The blood of patriots is the seed of the Republic. The founders and those who followed in their footsteps invested their lives in this country. They assured there would be freedom of religion, and from religion, so the government could neither bless nor ban what anyone believes, as occurs under radical theocracies and communist regimes.

Kudos to MnDOT – Our view: Intersection options a good start

It happens all too often, people blaming the Minnesota Department of Transportation when Minnesota’s roads are anything less than ideal. But this time, the staff at the MnDOT regional office serving Glencoe deserves credit.
Last Monday, Sept. 23, MnDOT and its consultant, SRF Consulting Group, publicly released proposals for improving the safety of potentially unsafe selected crossings of Highway 212 in Glencoe. Given the state of funding available to MnDOT, these options accomplish the realistic expectations we can expect for the design of Minnesota’s roads.
