County Board turns down request for new position

McLeod County commissioners voted not to hire a part-time deputy emergency management director at this time at the meeting on Tuesday, April 21.
The personnel committee could not come up with a recommendation so it asked Kevin Mathews, county emergency management director, to present information regarding the request.

Permits, fees waived for Glencoe Days

The Glencoe City Council waived a number of Glencoe Days permits and fees at Monday night’s meeting after Glencoe Days spokesman Jon Van Damme made a brief presentation.
Van Damme said Glencoe Days will return to its old format after last year’s flooding washed out the June event. An abbreviated version was held in conjunction with Heat in the Street last July.

Glencoe man hurt in rollover near Gaylord

Byron Johnson, 64, of Glencoe, was injured in a one-vehicle rollover aboutthree miles northeast of Gaylord Friday, April 17, at about 7:40 a.m.
According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer northbound on 441st Avenue (County Road 13) and entered the ditch at 246th Street. The vehicle hit a field approach and rolled.
Johnson was taken by ambulance to Glencoe Regional Health Services, where he was stabilized and then taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

GSL musicians earn superior, excellent ratings at state/region

On April 11, 84 members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School (GSL) bands and choirs participated in the state-section solo/ensemble contest at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This contest is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and allows students to perform instrumental and vocal solos and small ensembles before a certified adjudicator.

MCPA hosts annual meeting

The members of McLeod Cooperative Power Association (MCPA) gathered for the 80th annual meeting of the cooperative on Tuesday, April 14, at the Hutchinson Event Center. About 400 members and guests attended the business meeting and were served lunch following the meeting.
Three directors were elected for a three-year term each: Doug Kirtz of Hector, Allan Duesterhoeft of Hutchinson, and Gary Burdorf of Arlington were elected to serve Districts, 4, 5, and 6, respectively. For more, see the April 22 print edition of The Chronicle.
