Former Brownton cop pleads guilty to solicitation of child

A former Brownton Police Department patrol officer pleaded guilty to one count of electronic solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct last week.
Jacob Lee Binnebose entered the plea Friday, Aug. 30, in McLeod County District Court. He is scheduled for sentencing by Judge Jody Winters Oct. 29.

Kruse to retire after nine years as Brownton clerk

Brownton City Clerk Ella Kruse is retiring after nine years in two of the city’s top positions — four as the deputy clerk and five as the city clerk.
She was previously the city clerk in Cedar Mills, Kruse’s hometown, before coming to Brownton as a part-time deputy clerk in November of 2010. It isn’t a coincidence Kruse was drawn to the small town atmosphere, where friendliness and compatibility reigns supreme over revenues and expenditures.

Letter to editor: Councilor offers alternative way to improve horse trail

To the editor,
Over the last couple of years, complaints about the condition of the new horse trail along the Luce Line have been brought up. While some of that is warranted, some people have taken a divisive approach, going so far as to say the trail “was stolen” from horseback users. As an alternative, from someone who has advocated for horseback use with the DNR, I would like to offer some suggestions that might be more helpful.

There must be a solution – Our view: Gun law reform long overdue

A few weeks ago, we asked people in one of our highly unscientific opinion polls if in the wake of the latest mass shootings the time had come for some form or gun control.
The options for people responding to the poll were “yes,” “no” and “It depends on the proposal.” We disagree with the majority of the respondents to our poll. Yes, the time for some form of gun control has arrived.

Dennis Engelmann, 74, of Glencoe

Dennis Lee Engelmann, 74, of Glencoe, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Glencoe Regional Health in Glencoe.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 4 p.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Pastor Brian Brosz was the officiating clergy.
Pastor Brian Brosz performed a solo, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Ellen Brecht, 96, of Biscay

Ellen Mae (Jerabek) Brecht, 96, of Biscay, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 25, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 30, 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment following at the church cemetery.
Pastor Peter Adelsen was the officiating clergy.
Yvonne Schuette was the organist.
Soloist Brenda Hornick performed, “I Can Only Imagine.” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Nearer My God To Thee” were the congregational hymns.

Earl Boyle, 81, of Reno, Nev.

Earl Edward “Mike” Boyle passed away Aug. 16, at 81 in Renown Hospital, Reno, NV.
He was born Dec. 11, 1937, to Clara (Kegler) Boyle and Charles Boyle at home on their dairy farm in Carver County. Mike was the sixth of seven children and is preceded in death by his infant brother, Austin Boyle, brothers Charles Boyle and Gregory Boyle; sisters-in-law, Viola Boyle and Donna Boyle; uncle, Edward Boyle who lived on the farm with his family, and Mike’s parents. Mr. Boyle’s infant son, Colin Boyle, also precedes him in death.

Dennis Engelmann, 74, of Glencoe, husband of Patricia, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 4 p.m., at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2 to 4 p.m., two hours prior to the service at the chapel.
