Ann Backen, 78, of Minnetonka

Ann Backen, 78, of Minnetonka, died Sunday, May 19.
A longtime employee with the Hennepin County Library System, she was an active volunteer at the Church of St. Therese of Deephaven. She enjoyed gardening and singing with groups at church.
Mrs. Backen is preceded in death by her husband, Bob.
She is survived by children, Pat (Kathy), Dan and Beth (Keith Lockwood) Backen; grandchildren, Robert and Jenny.

Jerome Kaminsky, 86, of Hutchinson

Jerome J. Kaminsky, 86, of Hutchinson passed away Wednesday, May 15.
Mr. Kaminsky was born Aug. 8, 1932. His parents were Joseph and Sophie (Kelash) Kaminsky. He attended St. Adalbert’s Grade School, first through eighth grades. Mr. Kaminsky graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to Annette Marie Navratil Nov. 15, 1955. They shared 63 years of marriage. This marriage was blessed with three children, Lawrence Jerome Kaminsky of Dassel, Gary Jerome Kaminsky of New Prague, and Gail Annette Jensen of Arizona.

Alan Alsleben, 55, of Glencoe, passed away Monday, May 20, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment at Glencoe City Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, June 8, 9 to 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.

GSL trapshooters keep on firing

With only one week remaining, the Glencoe-Silver Lake trapshooting team is in sixth place in the Class 3A Conference 3 standings after the latest two weeks of competition at the Winthrop Game Protective League. Alden-Conger High School currently holds the top spot.
Top GSL trap shooters in Week 3 were: Katrina Dummer scoring 43 out of 50, Mia LaPlante scoring a 41, and Ethan Bernstein, Brayden Goebel and Haley Kirchoff all hitting 40 of their 50 targets.

Baseball finishes with a flourish

A six-game winning streak to finish the regular season gave the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team a 14-5 overall record as the Panthers now turn their attention to the postseason.
GSL was given the No. 4 seed for the Section 5AA bracket and is scheduled to host 13th-seeded Watertown-Mayer at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Panthers outscored the Royals 24-1 in the team’s two Wright County Conference West meetings this season.

GSL’s Schuth, Meyer earn all-conference

Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ golfers Riley Schuth and Zach Meyer both earned All-Wright County Conference West honors after each finished in the top 12 of the final conference individual standings.
The pair clinched their all-conference berths at the final WCC West meet of the season at Timber Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, May 14.
GSL placed fourth as a team at the meet, led by Jacob Schrupp’s 39.
Schuth carded a 42, Damien Silus a 43 and Meyer a 44 to round out the team score of 168.
Reid Coon-Gore and Derek Trippel each scored a 46 at the meet.

Higgins, Hallaway are all-conference

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ track team placed second, while the boys’ team claimed three all-conference honors in taking sixth at the Wright County Conference West championship meet on Tuesday, May 14.
Will Higgins claimed two All-WCC West honors by winning the 110- and 300-meter hurdles in respective times of 15.72 and 42.23 seconds.
Connor Hallaway won the 3200-meter run by seven-tenths of a second with a run of 10 minutes, 29.07 seconds to earn his team’s third all-conference honor. He also placed third in the 1600-meter run.

All-WCC West nod for Kosek

Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Grace Kosek concluded her final regular season with the Panther girls’ golf team by earning an All-Wright County Conference West spot as the No. 5 performer in the circuit.
Kosek finished the final WCC West meet at Little Crow Golf Club on Thursday, May 16, with a fourth-place score of 47. That score gave her the fifth-best stroke total in the conference at 383.
GSL as a team finished seventh at Little Crow with a score of 232.
Kenady Rosckes was 32nd with a score of 60, followed by Maddy Brown in 36th with a 62 and Alyssa Radke in 38th at 63.

Panthers earn share of WCC West softball title

The Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team earned a share of the Wright County Conference West championship last week before opening this week with a blowout victory to open the Section 5AA playoffs.
A 10-0 shutout of New London-Spicer on Tuesday, May 14, earned the Panthers at least a piece of the conference championship.
Pitcher Briana Wraspir tossed a one-hitter at the Wildcats, while joining Elise Petersen and Kaitlyn Uecker with two RBI each in the five-inning victory.
GSL needed a win over second-place Litchfield on Thursday, May 16, to claim outright ownership of the WCC West crown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11a.m. Friday, May 24 at the Church of St. Therese of Deephaven, 18325 Minnetonka Blvd., Wayzata, with interment at St. Pius X Cemetery, Glencoe at 3 p.m.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway, and again one hour prior to Mass Friday at church.
