5 injured in 4-vehicle accident near Green Isle

Four vehicles were involved in an accident that injured five people on Highway 5 near 196th Street in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The accident was reported at 6:41 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford semi was eastbound on Highway 5, going toward Green Isle, as was a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. The Sunfire attempted to pass the semi, and sideswiped the truck. The Sunfire then entered the westbound lane and collided with a westbound 2012 Buick LaCrosse. The driver of the semi hit the brakes and lost control, and the semi went into the westbound lane and then into the ditch. As the semi was entering into the ditch, it collided with a 2013 Ford pickup, which was westbound on Highway 5.
John Orlin Meyer, 56, of Green Isle, the driver of the semi, was taken to the hospital in Waconia. Logan Alexander Fernandez, 29, of Cologne, driver of the Pontiac Sunfire, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. A passenger in the Sunfire, 3-year-old Kasandra Dralle, address unknown, was transported to the hospital in Arlington. Lee Earl Wieman, 53, driver of the Ford pickup, was taken to the Arlington hospital. A passenger in the pickup, Laurie Kay Wieman, 52, also of Arlington, was not injured. Joleen Harriet Dose, 40, of Arlington, driver of the Buick, also was taken to the Arlington hospital. All of those hurt in the accident are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries, according to the state patrol.
All of the drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
