Abundant numbers for this year's GSL wrestling program
In spite of beginning the season in a short-staffed manner due to various reasons last weekend, the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling program is boasting some of the best overall numbers in memory.
“The numbers are up, way up, which is great,” coach Lance Wurm said. “We are kind of confused at what to do with such numbers – but that’s a nice problem to have.”
GSL headed into November with 43 members at the high school level and another fifteen at the junior high level. Wurm and his staff have had difficulties finding space for all the new faces to practice.
“The numbers are the highest in my 9-10 years here,” Wurm said. “We need more room, but the kids are all still here and working hard.”
It doesn’t look to be a limited phenomenon, either. Wurm said that between the GSL and Lester Prairie youth programs, there are another 60 wrestlers in the pipeline between kindergarten and sixth grade.
