Additional staff approved for School Readiness, ECSE

School Board approved two new positions to accommodate a spurt in enrollment in its School Readiness preschool program and early childhood special education (ESCE).
The School Board heard Monday night that there already have been 27 registrations for the morning 4-year-old class for 2015-16, and 16 registrations for the ECSE program. The enrollments are high enough to trigger the splitting of the 4-year-old class into sections, according to the school administration.
While there has not been a similar enrollment for afternoon classes, those classes typically fill up with registrations over the summer months.
The School Board approved hiring an additional School Readiness preschool teacher and an additional paraprofessional to accommodate the enrollment. Superintendent Chris Sonju said the additional cost will be covered with revenue generated through tuition.
The teaching position will be for up to 171⁄2 hours per week, while the paraprofessional position will be for up to 161⁄4 hours per week.
