Band, choir students represented GSL well in D.C.

To the Editor:
On Feb. 28 through March 5, we had the privilege of traveling with 118 Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) band and choir members and their two directors to Washington, D.C., for the band and choir trip. During the trip, the students had an opportunity to perform at a music clinic on the Joint Naval/Air Force Base Anacostia-Bolling, where they played and sang for members of the U.S. Air Force Band and the Singing Sergeants. In addition, the choir was able to perform inside the Lincoln Memorial, which was an incredible way to share their talents with other visitors.
Throughout the trip and the many tours and activities we took part in, Glencoe-Silver Lake students were well-behaved and treated others with respect and courtesy. This was true whether they were on the bus, the hotel, a museum, a restaurant, the Capitol, or a national monument. We received a number of compliments from people we encountered regarding how great the kids were – the community should be proud to know that they represented the school and our communities so well!
The chaperones would like to commend the directors, Peter Gepson and Kay Wilson, for the time and effort they put forth to make this trip possible. It is not easy to travel with 118 students, but they did an outstanding job of planning this trip, working with the band and choir to prepare music prior to leaving, and overall, making it a memorable opportunity for students. Their passion and dedication to the students and the music program of GSL did not go unnoticed by the chaperones.
Please take the time to thank the directors for this opportunity and for all they do for the music program at GSL – the impact that they have on the students is incredible. In addition, thank the students for their dedication to the band and choir program at GSL and for how well they represented our community.
