Barbara ‘Barb’ Dammann, 73, of Lester Prairie

Barbara “Barb” Jean (Schmidt) Dammann, 73, of Lester Prairie, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, 5 p.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with interment following at the church cemetery. Pastor Joshua Arndt will officiate the ceremony.
Nancy Buckentine will be the organist and “Beautiful Savior,” “Amazing Grace,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” are the congregational hymns.
Guy Griesmann will be the honorary casket-bearer. Jim Klaustermeier, Gary Ernst, Larry Ide, Dale Dietel, David Baumann, Gordon Birkholz Jr., and Maurice Dammann are the casket-bearers.
Barbara “Barb” Jean (Schmidt) Dammann was born March 18, 1945, in Winsted Township. She was the daughter of Ortwin and Lorna (Klaustermeier) Schmidt. Barbara was baptized as an infant April 1, 1945, by Rev. R. A. Ritz and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth March 22, 1959, by Rev. A. F. Vomhof both at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Her confirmation verse was 1 John 2:25. Barbara received her education in Lester Prairie, graduating with the Lester Prairie High School Class of 1963.
May 16, 1969, Barbara was united in marriage to Milan Wallace Dammann by Rev. Norman Steinke at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. The couple made their home on the family farm in Bergen Township. In 2008, they moved to Lester Prairie. Barbara and Milan shared over 42 years of marriage until Milan passed away July 7, 2011.
In addition to being a loving wife and homemaker, Barbara helped Milan on the family farm. She also worked at Schwartz Manufacturing in Lester Prairie. Barbara was a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Barbara loved country music and attending country music concerts. She also enjoyed genealogy, photography and camping in her motor home. When Barbara needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Westwood Place in Watertown and then St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, where she passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 19 days. Blessed be her memory.
Barbara is survived by her siblings, Beverly Krueger and her husband, Paul, of Excelsior; Janet Skogen and her husband, Rick, of Brainerd; nieces, Jane Dietel and her husband, Dale, of Lester Prairie; Laurie Griesmann and her husband, Guy, of Oronoco; Kathy Baumann and her husband, David, of Lester Prairie; Marla Birkholz and her husband, Gordon Jr., of Lester Prairie; nephews, Maurice Dammann and his wife, Christine, of Lester Prairie; Sean Krueger and his wife, Amy, of Buffalo; Patrick Krueger of Plymouth; Matt Skogen and his wife, Grace, of Chanhassen; Josh Skogen and his wife, Grete, of Solitude, Utah; aunt, Dorothy Ernst; other relatives and many friends.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ortwin and Lorna Schmidt; husband, Milan Dammann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ewald and Martha Dammann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maynard and Mabel Dammann.
