Betty J.L. Schuette

Betty Jean LeAnn Schuette, 79, of Brownton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at her home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn with the Rev. Bradley Danielson officiating. Myrtice Becker was the organist. Congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary casket bearers were Nicholas Schuette, Jessica Schuette, Alexis Kube, Jordyn Kube, Kian Mahon and McCoy Zajicek. Casket bearers were Tiffany Kube, Jesse Kube, Trisha Zajicek, Jason Zajicek, Joe Shanahan and Katie Shanahan.
Betty Jean LeAnn Schuette was born April 23, 1938, in Penn Township, the daughter of Edwin and Olga (Brede) Duenow. She was baptized as an infant on May 15, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, and was confirmed in her faith on April 1, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. She received her education at a country school before attending school in New Auburn after her parents moved to town.
On May 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Virgil Schuette at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Tammy and Tim. The couple first lived in New Auburn before moving to Hutchinson for a time. In 1961, they built a home back in New Auburn, where they raised their family. Recently, they built another home in rural Brownton, where they enjoyed watching the wildlife. They shared over 61 years of marriage.
The Schuettes owned Schuette’s bar in New Auburn for a few years, and she also drove school bus for 31 years. She was a TOPS leader and enjoyed doing the girls’ hair for the school danceline. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn.
She loved various things and was often heard saying, “I wasn’t born to stay home.” She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, Wheel of Fortune and crafting, having made with her own hands many wedding floral arrangements. Both Betty and Virgil loved traveling, making it to the Fuji Islands and Hawaii. She valued time spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil, of Brownton; daughter, Tammy (Vern) Grack of New Auburn; son, Tim (Melissa) Schuette of Plato; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jesse) Kube, Trisha (Jason) Zajicek, Joe (Katie) Shanahan, Nicholas Schuette and Jessica Schuette; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jordyn Kube, Kian Mahon and McCoy Zajicek; nephews, Leon Becker, Byron Becker and Scott Becker; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Olga Duenow; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Anna Schuette; and sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Henry Becker.
