Boys’ basketball suffers first defeat of season
A three-game winning streak to begin the season came to an end over the weekend for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team.
The Panthers allowed the most points this season and scored their fewest in a 54-45 loss to visiting Sibley East on Saturday, Dec. 16, to fall to 3-1 on the season.
As has been its ritual so far this season, GSL was involved in a close game at halftime, trailing the Wolverines 22-19 at the break.
However, unlike in their first three matchups, the Panthers never found that extra gear in the second half and instead suffered a nine-point defeat.
Forward Kyle Christensen was the lone GSL player to record double-digit scoring, tallying a game-high 17 points.
The Panthers are on the road for a pair of games this week. GSL traveled to Mayer Lutheran on Tuesday, Dec. 19, after the Chronicle went to press, and will play at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Thursday night.
