Boys' hoopsters fall to Litchfield

It was a short week for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team, and not a victorious one.
The Panthers dropped their Wright County Conference West opener on Friday, Jan. 11, as visiting Litchfield hung a 70-53 loss on the hosts.
The teams battled back-and-forth through the first half, before the Dragons eked out a slim 28-25 halftime edge.
Litchfield began to pull away early in the second half before GSL rallied to knot the score at 43-all midway through the frame as forward Gabe Roepke hit and basket and a free throw.
The rally was short-lived, however, as the Dragons stormed back out in front and rolled to the 17-point victory.
The loss came in spite of a stellar night for Ropeke, who led all scorers with 22 points.
Guard Dane Schwirtz scored nine points, while forwards Gage Alsleben and Jaden Uecker scored eight and six points, respectively.
The defeat dropped GSL’s record to 7-6 on the season as the team hosted the final night of a seven-game homestand on Tuesday, Jan. 15, against Mound Westonka, after the Chronicle went to press.
The Panthers are slated to travel to Rockford for another WCC West matchup on Friday night, before returning home to face New London-Spicer next Tuesday.
