Brownton City Council OKs employee insurance plan
City council votes to retain trash hauler
Brownton is taking a new direction with its health insurance plan to benefit both the city and city staff.
Brownton currently purchases employee health coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield. An 8.39 percent increase is expected when the contract ends May 31. The city council voted at its April 6 meeting to go with Health Partners instead, which will cause a 3.78 percent increase for next year.
This equates to $1,900 in savings for taxpayers, according to city clerk Lori Cacka. However, Brownton will be putting $500 into each city employee’s HSA account to start them off, which totals $2,500. Cacka said this $600 difference is almost nothing in Brownton’s budget though.
“It’s basically a wash,” she said.
