Brownton may hire third-party consultant to help with wage schedule

If it doesn’t cost too much money, Brownton City Councilors might hire a consultant to help them determine possible changes to the city’s employee salary schedule.
At a special meeting Monday evening, Oct. 28, Mayor Norm Schwarze was the first to suggest the council look at the cost of hiring a consultant, but it wasn’t until later in the meeting other councilors signed on to the notion.
As the pay schedule sits right now, employees get a 3 percent raise for 2020 at the council’s discretion. The city is looking at a pay schedule that includes steps and percentage increases.
The council didn’t get much further than looking at the base pay levels and discussed potentially raising the floor and adjusting the schedule from there. It also briefly discussed uniform raises, like giving everybody a $1 per hour raise, from the city clerk to the low-level summer lawn care help.
