Brownton revisits wage increases for police, city staff
A month after the Brownton City Council unanimously approved significant raises for police officers meant to bring their compensation to a level similar to their area counterparts, the council rescinded the raises and approved wage increases for police and the entire city staff.
At its Jan. 4 meeting, the city council unanimously canceled the wage increases for police approved in December and then approved, with little public discussion or explanation, wage increases expanding Brownton’s municipal payroll from $323,736.40 in 2021 to an estimated $353,669.63 – an increase of 9¼ percent. In December, the council unanimously OK’d wage hikes of approximately 21 to about 30 percent for police officers.
