Brownton Rod & Gun brings warm weather, family fun

The 32nd year of the Brownton Rod & Gun Club’s ice fishing contest and raffle brought warm weather, $30,000 in prizes and hundreds of people to Lake Marion on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The annual ice fishing contest brought out competitors and their families for a day of ice-fishing related fun. Hosted at the Brownton Rod and Club and across the road on the ice of Lake Marion, fish houses were sprawled across the lake, four-wheelers and snowmobiles transported families on and off the ice and competitors were battling to catch the first, biggest and smallest fish.
For some, the annual Rod & Gun Club event is commonplace, and they wouldn’t think to schedule anything else that day. Others were fortunate enough to hear of the event through friends or relatives and decided to attend on a whim.
Though the raffle and ice fishing contest are primary to the event, how attendees enjoyed the afternoon varied greatly. Some families just wanted time on the ice in the warmer weather while others were competing for prizes.
