Brownton tops Cologne as part of weekly split

The Brownton Bruins earned a split in last week’s games, claiming a 9-4 home win over Cologne on Tuesday, June 6, before falling by the same score at Dassel-Cokato three nights later.

A five-run first inning gave the Bruins a solid start against the Hollanders.

Reggie Vacek capped off the scoring with a two-run double, plating Nick Heller and Taylor Schuette after the pair had knocked in Derek Randy and Ryan Grams, respectively. Heller went 2-for-3 in the game, Grams was 3-for-5.

Starting pitcher Dylan McCormick went eight innings, allowing nine runs, three walks and four runs – one of which was unearned. He struck out nine to earn the win, with Grams pitching the final frame, notching a pair of strikeouts.

The tables were turned at Dassel on Friday, June 9, as the hosts scattered nine runs rather evenly over eight innings to top Brownton by five.

Austin Thompson delivered the big blow for the Bruins with a three-run double in the eighth after the visitors had been held to just one run in the previous seven innings.

Brownton hosts Young America at 7:30 p.m. Friday night before traveling to New Germany for a 3 p.m. start on Father’s Day.
