Bruins roar into the season on a high note
The Brownton Bruins amateur baseball team opened its 2015 season with an 8-4 win over St. Croix Falls.
While a victory was appreciated, the non-league game also gave the Bruins the opportunity to give five of its pitchers live experience on the mound, as well as the defense a chance to try more than one position.
Manager Doug Schuette said that while the bullpen this year has significant depth — with five potential starters and seven relievers — it will not be able to count on two of its starters from the 2014 season.
Cody Hallahan, who had a 6-1 record, 82 strikeouts and a 1.68 ERA last year for the Bruins, asked for a release from his contract for 2015.
