City of Brownton-Council Meeting

City of Brownton
Brownton City Council
March 6, 2018
٠ Resident Shawn McCoy approached Council asking for leniency on the no-parking ordinance to something less than November-March. He recommended mass texting or emailing when plowing; if vehicles are not moved, then ticket. Mayor Schwarze explained that when the decision to move their car is left up to the owner’s discretion, it doesn’t always constitute the best decision. Our no-parking ordinance is the same as Glencoe and Hutch. No changes to the existing ordinance were considered at this time.
٠
Resident Tina Rahey brought issues to Council stating her neighbor is blocking the “sidewalk area”, thus forcing her children to walk on the street. Brownton PD will reiterate that the sidewalk area is for public use and vehicles must not block passage.
Jason Buxcel ٠(owner of former Brownton Square Building) has received forfeiture notice due to previous owner’s unpaid property tax and approached Council to consider forgiveness of said tax and penalties. Council will take the request into consideration. Council included Buxcel remain on task to complete the building renovation.
٠ Bayley Schluter from McLeod County Historical Preservation Society reported the collection records are complete for the Brownton School Memorabilia. She also reviewed the project and breakdown, all of which was covered by grant dollars.
٠ Rodeberg of SEH reported there were seven contractors who bid for Brownton’s infrastructure project. Low bid was R&R Excavating of Hutchinson who came in $700K under engineer estimate; bids to be reviewed and awarded on April 3.
٠ Public Works report included repairing the water main break on Division, maintenance of lift station pump (plugged with rags), and plowing snow. Bid for Kubota was reviewed and tabled until April meeting.
٠ Chief Bauer reported PTSD trauma training went well; approximately 40 people attended. Bauer discussed seeking out McLeod County for (on call) coverage for the city; support and staffing needs to be addressed with the county. Impounded cars in the WW fenced area need to be addressed with the county for disposition.
٠ Council approved the liquor license for the Brownton Brewfest Event, scheduled for April 7 at the Brownton Area Civic Center Gymnasium. Council also approved the liquor license for the Brownton Annual Fish Fry on March 23 at the Brownton Community Center.
٠ Council discussed possible appointments to replace Brian Dressel on city council; decision to be made in April meeting.
٠ The property owner at 204 1st Ave South purchased contract for deed. The owner would consider the city’s potential $5K offer to purchase the house free and clear, but needs to meet with CTW Group to ask if they would accept the $5K as full payment.
٠ City activities: May 12, 2018, is scheduled for Test n Tune for mini rods on County 25; May 19 is the rain day. Council will provide license/permission to block off the county road. City tractor pull (mini rods) is scheduled for August 10, 2018 on 4th Avenue North; street dance to follow by Brownton Bar & Grill.
Upon motion, meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
Ella Kruse, City Clerk
