City Council updated on various projects

As summer is winding down, so are the city’s summer projects. The Glencoe City Council heard updates on both current and future projects during its regular Monday night meeting.
Lincoln Park
City Administrator Mark Larson explained that the Lincoln Park project is moving along. The piping work is completed. He said there are storm sewers left to be finished on 11th Street and by the creamery.
The crossing of Highway 22 will be paved on Thursday and have concrete poured on Friday. Larson mentioned there is a potential for rain on Thursday, but if the paving and concrete are done on time, Highway 22 will reopen on Saturday.
Police Chief Jim Raiter said he has still seen some issues with people trying to sneak through the closure, but the area has a larger police presence and the signage has helped.
Crews are starting to bring the final roads up to grade and concrete curb and gutter should be done on Oct. 19 and then the final paving will begin.
Airport Taxiway
The taxiway project at the Glencoe Municipal Airport is also moving along well, Larson reported. He said crews are hauling a lot of dirt, sand and gravel to construct the taxiway.
The crew is still waiting for  a 72-inch pipe for the ditch in the area. Council Member Allen Robeck asked if the ditch is still plugged. Larson explained it is and the crew has pumps in the area and are prepared if the area receives more rain. Though they haven’t had any problems so far, Larson said if necessary they can open the ditch up again.
The project is on schedule and should be done by the end of the month.
Armstrong Avenue
Plans for the potential Armstrong Avenue project are still being developed. The city will have a 60 percent meeting with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) on Oct. 12 to review the percentage of the project that is complete.
Larson said SEH engineer Justin Black is working on alternative locations for the storm water pond piece of the project. He has found two or three possible alternatives that will be presented to the Council as soon as he has them in hand.
The city also will meet with Seneca Foods Corporation again.
