7:00 p.m.

Board Chair Alsleben called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The following board members were present: Christianson,
Lindeman, Twiss, Kuester and VonBerge. In addition, Superintendent Chris Sonju;
Business Manager Michelle Sander,
Principals Bill Butler and Matt Foss;
Administrative Assistant Shelley Renville, Mike Morris/GSL Technology Staff and John Mueller/McLeod County Chronicle.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Announcements The next regular School Board meeting will be on Monday,
September 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the GSL Schools Community Room #443/444.
Business Manager Sander reported to the board. Principals Foss & Butler reported to the board. Superintendent Sonju reported to the board. He thanked the custodial staff, Stevens Seminary, Dean Engleman with Glencoe Rotary and City of Glencoe. Committee Reports:
Director Christianson mentioned negotiations are taking place.
Director Kuester motioned to approve the agenda. Director Lindeman
seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
Director Twiss motioned to approve the consent agenda with addendum.
Director Christianson seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
Bills-July bills are on file and available for review at the Superintendent’s Office, 1621 East 16th Street, Glencoe.

New Business- Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 126C.17, subdivision 9a, the Board hereby determines to
authorize a new Board approved
referendum authority in the amount of $300 per adjusted pupil unit. It is the
intention of the Board to create the
maximum authority for which it is
eligible, not to exceed $300 per adjusted pupil unit. This new Board approved
referendum authority shall be applicable for five years, beginning with taxes payable in 2020. The Board may
subsequently reauthorize the Board
approved referendum authority in
increments of up to five years. A roll call vote was taken; all voted in favor, motion carried. Motion by Director Lindeman seconded by Director Twiss, to adopt the Resolution Authorizing a New Board
Approved Referendum Authority.
The board of Independent School District No. 2859 (Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools) has proposed to increase its general education revenue by $460 per pupil. A portion of this proposed
referendum revenue authorization would replace the $176.88 per pupil
portion of the school district's prior
authorization, which expires after taxes payable in 2019. The proposed referendum revenue authorization would
increase each year by the rate of inflation and be applicable for ten years,
beginning with taxes payable in 2020, unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law. A roll call vote was taken; all voted in favor, motion carried. Motion by Director Christianson
seconded by Director Kuester, to adopt the Resolution Authorizing a New Board Approved Referendum Authority.
The Glencoe-Silver Lake School District will hold its Truth in Taxation Hearing (prior to the regularly-scheduled December 10th School Board meeting) in the GSL Schools Community Room #443/444 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The levy will be certified at the regular Board meeting at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Superintendent Sonju and School Board negotiators (Directors Von Berge and Twiss) recommend approving the
following Licensed Nurse Contracts: Chelsey Busse, Angela Laxen & Lori Eischens, from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. Motion made by Director Von Berge seconded by Director Twiss to
approve the contracts as listed above.
Superintendent Sonju and School Board negotiators (Directors Christianson and Lindeman) recommend approving Dean Schwirtz, Activities Director (AD)
Contract from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. Motion made by Director
Lindeman seconded by Director
Christianson to approve the Activities
Director (AD) Contract. Superintendent Sonju recommends approval of hiring a .5 FTE Title Interventionist at the
Junior/Senior High School. Funds will be out of title budget. Motion made by Director Twiss seconded by Director Von Berge to approve the hiring of a .5 FTE Title Interventionist at the Junior/Senior High School. Superintendent Sonju
recommends approval of hiring a Special Education Program Paraprofessional for 9 hours per week due to student enrollment. Motion made by Director Kuester seconded by Director Christianson to
approve the hiring of a SpEd Program Professional. Superintendent Sonju
recommends approving the Interagency Agreement between Glencoe-Silver Lake School District and Heartland Community Action Agency, Inc. Early Head Start/Head Start. Motion by Director Von Berge seconded by Director Lindeman to approve the Agreement from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019.
Motion made by Director VonBerge to approve the first reading of the following policies. The policies will be brought back for a second reading at the
September Board meeting:

Motion made by Director VonBerge to adopt the resolution to accept
donations.
